Within one hour, my information is unavailable, I got a weird spoof from someone claiming I have the high bid on something and ebay sales called me to let me know that I would be receiving an email and that it wasn't a spoof or spam! I'm going to go hide under my desk now. Yikes!

I highly doubt eBay would call someone on the phone to say an email wasn't a spoof or spam.

Could spoofers be trying to trick people by calling them?

BEWARE! I believe that the phone call was a spoof phone call! My partner took the call so I don't know exactly what they said but it was something about them being from Ebay sales and just to let me know that I would recieving an email shortly that would not be a spam or spoof. I never received an email except for the one saying I was the high bidder on something (I wasn't bidding on anything) with a link to the item. Luckily it's not my home phone! Time to update my information! That's a little too close for comfort. WATCH OUT! Does anyone know if you MUST have your phone number in your contact info that goes to buyers? I'm looking into that today! What a PITA!!!!

If someone requested your information- ebay would notify you by email? Did you get that?
I think I would update my information too if I were you.

I never got any request for information. The whole thing is something I've never seen before. Anyway, I did send the spoof email to ebay and they're "investigating" it.

To answer your question above, yes, you MUST have a valid, working phone number on file with Ebay where a customer, or Ebay can reach you. One of the quickest ways to get suspended is to not have a valid email address or contact number on file with Ebay.
