I don't know what's happening these past few months, but my sales on AMZ Mktplc have been blazing. I think their search engines are doing it.

I put several used books up for sale on Amazon about a month ago, and today one of them sold. I'm not sure if the books are on Amazon Marketplace or somewhere else in Amazon (all their different venues confuse me).

They are cleaning house at Amazon. Abe, Alibris, and many small sellers are getting booted. Only a select few can sell software and video games and electronics now.

Jake, explain yourself. Who's getting booted?

Go read the Amazon discussion board

http://forums.prosperotechnologies.com/am-sellconnect/start/

The aggregate (sp?) book sellers..ABE, Alibris, etc are being booted. A lot of the software and electronic sellers. And other sellers whose rate of returns is too high.

Some sellers don't even know why they were kicked off. Too many negatives, too many returns, etc..

why are Alibris and Abe being kicked out?
If you are paying amzn 15% commision ,then you are selling on marketplace.
This is the problem of letting sellers leave their listing on your site forever, the book could have been sold elsewhere but they dont bother to remove it from AMZN.
When buyers are not happy with their purchase from individual sellers, they blame it on AMZN.

Hmmm, still not sure what's happening. I've been with AMZ since 2001 and my ratings are good. I'm a small individual seller, but i do well on the site (vs. Ebay & Half.com, OVS). Are you saying that an individual purchaser buys an item from ABE or Alibis...returns the item and blames AMZ for the returned product?
Even though the receipt says "ABE"?
If there are too many returns, AMZ boots them out?

They never really said why ABE and Alibris are getting booted. But it seems like the book sellers who list thru them also list their books again themselves on Amazon. I would guess that Amazon is getting too many complaints from buyers that they have to refund thru their A-Z Guarantee program.

Other small sellers are having their payment accounts frozen and selling accounts closed. (This I read on the discussion board mentioned above).

I sell mostly under software and video games and have noticed a lot of sellers are no longer there. Which is good for the remaining sellers, better prices with less competition.

sounds like AMZN is doing some dealer cleansing.
The ABE,Alibris,Strands,ER Hamilton and Powell Books are all invited by Jeff BOZO to sell on Amzn years ago to expand the product base.
Take a look at ER Hamilton awesome feedback,it may be selling more but AMZN shipping fee and that 15% put it in the hole.
If you go to its own site, you will find out the asking price of the same book is lower and shipping higher.

I can understand if ABE, et al voluntarily drop out because of fees. Why should they give AMZ 15%+comm. + shipping for something that they can sell direct?

But when Jake wrote "booted out" that implies they were doing something wrong, or AMZ wants to clean house.

I don't like the 15%, but since I'm a small person, can't afford a store there or anywhere. I'm just getting smarter and selling higher-ticket prices.

I think AMZ's search engine affiliations are the best on the internet. I have stuff at Yahoo and no looks, no traffic. Next to AMZ probably Ebay.
Ebay is not supporting half.com, which is too bad. They should just incorporate Half into the site or let it go.

AMZN let anyone everyone lists books, some list them at one penny ,some dont have the book but lists it higher than others hoping to find a cheaper book when they get a buyer, some cant find their book, some are away from home and dont check their emails, some just send the wrong book or lie and claim they have sent the book.
many do not accept return .
so more and more buyers go to amzn to complain and file for refund under their customer satisfaction policy.
The only way to make AMZN sit up and take notice and do something is when it starts losing money, taking a 15 % cut and refunding 100% of the money.

ABE will be gone this month and ALIBRIS next month.

Basically Amazon wants to do away with multiple seller accounts and each seller must have their own account.

From what I'm reading, AMZ is cleaning house? That makes it better for the little person.

LOS ANGELES — Online retailer Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) Tuesday posted a lower quarterly profit and forecast sales below some Wall Street expectations, sending shares down 6 percent in after-hours trading.

Getting rid of the aggregators is a good thing for several reasons. First, all those ridiculous books selling for one cent are gone (sometimes the total receipts wouldn't even cover shipping!) Second, AMZN was experiencing a refund rate that was way too high from these guys. Third, it can only help us true small scale sellers.

BTW, ebay really shot itself in the foot when they tried to close half.com. I used to sell a lot there but moved to Amazon and am very happy. I only use ebay for certain types of books.

Check their Zshops. Go to Amazon, Everything else and do a search. If you want to sell it open a Zshop, which I think is way too high for monthly charges.

zshops get no traffic and no sales, you may sell a few items around xmas, dont waste your money.
Agrregators like Alibris and Abe dont have penny book sellers as members, most are small booksellers who lost their bookstores, they know better to sell book at a penny.
The ones who sell books at one penny are the scavengers who either read the book and want to rid them or find them in garage sales or given to them by their friends free,or buy them in bulk at thrift shops and libraries.
Then there are some who work for print shop which print paperbacks, the ones who are not perfect are given to them to sell for a penny, they make money on shipping.
Then there are some who buy skids and pick out the good ones and list them at high price, the rest they list at a penny to make room for new books in their storage.
Dont waste your money on Zshop, unless you have a lot of antiquarian books with no ISBN numbers you want to sell on AMZN.

you may want to look into Ebay store for wholesaling your opals.
