Last fall my Compaq laptop finally hit the bit bucket due to a bad power jack. I was looking for an easy way to recover the disk drive and someone recommended I get one of these.
Sounds perfect for what I need. Supposedly I can just remove the hard drive from the laptop, pop it into one of these and be able to access the drive from a usb port on my new system.
I can even use the drive for portable storage later. Sounds too good to be true, but I am going to give it a try!
And just for Jack, there are 1000 of these on Ebay for just 99 cents with postage ranging from 7.99 to 15.99. The one I used in the example ships from Hong Kong cheaper than the ones listed in the States. Go figure!
BTW, I just ordered one from the States. .99 and 7.99 shipping.

Looks great to me. I have always liked the concept of being able to access an external hard drive. In fact I have one system set up with a scsi bus. There is no internal hard drive in the computer. Everything is on one of several external drives. The scsi drives do require their own power supplies in the external cases, but changing from one drive to another just entails unplugging one drive amd plugging into another. It's a great way to go if you want to run multiple operating systems on one computer. Put Win98 on one drive, WinXP on another and Linux on another and be able to run virtually any software program ever written.
