Well, am I embarrassed. I just got an email from "ask seller a question" through Ebay (or so I thought) asking about shipping charges on one of my auctions. It looked like the real thing, and I clicked on the link to my auction which took me to the Ebay sign in page. Without thinking, I signed in, but of course it didn't take me to one of my auctions, just back to the sign in page, so like a dumbsh*t, I signed in AGAIN. It was at about this time that I realized what I had done, ME! the most careful, suspicious, leary, never-clicks-on-anything person in the WORLD, had fallen for it.

Of course, I immediately changed my password and all is well now, but I sure hate the feeling that someone got to me, and almost got to my account! So watch out for this one in your mailbox soon!

Good thing you caught it! I can't imagine how many people fall for this though. I don't hit the reply button anymore, I go to the item page, and go from there to answer a question.

It happens to the best of us. At least you realized what was going on before any damage was done.

Best advise to prevent this from ever happening is to use ebay's security toolbar. If you ever do click on a fake link, type your user name and password in a fake site the toolbar tell's you that you are on a fake site. I use it and like it. I have even tried clicking on some of those fake emails just to try it and it caught every one.

still keep an eye on your accounts I think ... in case your "sign in" was a keystroke logger virus, cuz then they are even following the keystrokes you put in to create your new passwords, etc. ... at least I think that's how those work.

I too have gotten more questions about shipping fees, but I always go to the item itself to respond--having learned from the smart pals here.

I've gotten into the habit of always looking at the url, or even hover the mouse over the link (or right click on a PC and ctrl/click on a Mac) then Properties/Get Info to see the url it goes to before you actually click it and go to that site.

Tradersjones...Go to www.trendmicro.com and use their "Housecall" program to scan your system and make sure that sign in site didn't deposit a trojan on your hard drive. If it did, the Housecall program will remove it. Then you need to go to every site yiou have signed into since that phony page and change your passwords. Don't trust the AV program on your computer 100% to detect a trojan. Always verify it with an off site scan.

Best thing to do first is get in the habit of going to your MY EBAY, and see if the "ASK SELLER A QUESTION" appears there. If not, don't answer it. All legit, "ASK SELLER A QUESTIONS" will appear in your MY EBAY.

Lesson learned, that's for sure. Thanks for the tip, Sparkz - scanned and clean, whew! And yes, MY EBAY for everything from now on.

Brings to mind another warning (old joke)I got via email:
If a man comes to your front door and says he is conducting a survey and asks you to show him your boobs, DO NOT SHOW HIM YOUR BOOBS.
This is a SCAM, he only wants to see your boobs.
I wish I’d gotten this yesterday… I feel so stupid...

Yes, I feel like a dork, but at least THAT won't happen to me again!

Thanks for sharing the experience here. It'll help keep us all on our toes and maybe prevent it from happening to someone else.
