WOW!!!! ... how awesome this is! ...

neglus, did you see after listing something, this part: "Have lots of stuff to add to Google Base? Do it fast with a bulk upload. Learn more or get started."

There are a few problems that I can see - didn't give many payment options (no PayPal, no Money Orders), can't indicate you ship worldwide, I can't get the image I want to show in the thumbnail(shows the back and not the front no matter in which order I add them)...has anyone else tried it?

I saw that Marcia about the bulk uploader but not sure how to add pics that way (or how to do it all for that matter LOL)...is anyone else awake???

Here's my listing:
http://base.google.com/base/items?oid=10497349760090019452

Not as fancy as ebay but maybe more exposure. It wouldn't let me link to ebay

But hey! It's FREE FREE FREE - even image hosting with click to enlarge!

Way to go! Thanks -- love this board for just this kind of thing.

Listed one item just to get feel for it -- very simple and refreshlingly fast. Neglus, found your post card by doing search on Victorian post card immediately -- now I want you to deliver this to SC, which is less than the 1000 miles indicated (you may want to change this!)

Thanks again -- that woke me up in a hurry!

We might all get filthy rich! LOL.

And so cool how you can put a bunch of keywords in.

It let me do a listing for a company I just formed this Fall ... I love it!

I do wish they'd put better delivery options! Birgit, put on the specks...I put 10,000 not 1000. I really would deliver worldwide - maybe I should put 25,000 - that should about cover it!

LOL, I saw your "Will Deliver" and laughed. Don't you just KNOW some dummy will want it hand carried?

Thanks for the Tip. I just listed a book and it was very easy! I LUV IT!

I wonder how Google is going to keep all of the new advertising out of the serious searches?

Can you imagine how hard it is going to be to find something not related to stuff for sale??? It was already becoming a pain to sort out all of the TIAS and RubyLane hits to get to what you were really looking for.

wow...how cool is that? Leave it to google, boy! That was the easist listing ever!

I dont suppose they will be able to take paypal as ebay/pp probably wouldnt want to support the competition...unless it takes off huge and they buy into a piece of it or something....

Now what do I do - go look in the search and see if my for sale item comes up?

hmmmm...would be nice, no fees....

thanks michael for posting that!

I dont see my item. Maybe it takes awhile ?

Agate: I wonder if that verbage was drafted BEFORE google base (it's still in beta now)

Jack - In the upper right corner is a link "MY Account" you can set your preferences there..they hide your email address and the customer just sees a "contact" link ..I did that with my name.

That being said, I tried clicking on the "contact button" on one of my listings and it didn't work. Can someone else try? (Link is at the top of this thread) THANKS

Hello, neglus....

I clicked on your listing where it says, "contact the poster," and my "Outlook Express" immediately popped up.

The e-mail address it gave me (in order to contact you) was quite long, and it ended in @base.google.com. I didn't want to post the entire e-mail address here in order to protect your privacy.

Take care. Greg

Thanks - then it is screening the real email address - I am using a short GMail address.

Incidently the little map they are using to show location is showing a site within a mile of me (maybe more like 6 blocks). I don't think I gave my street address (registered with Gmail a long time ago) and Maple Grove is several square miles - weird!

Are there counters? I don't see one.

Am I missreading the terms. "The Google Services are made available for your personal, non-commercial use only. You may not use the Google Services to sell a product or service...".

I know the ads said "Listing of your used car for sale". Is it the listing service that can not be sold? Item for sale? OK? Not?

Jake...good question and at this time its hard to know how gbase is searched per se other than results appearing in a natural search.
Froogle as such, is a price comparison platform and at least for now, is separate from gbase.

What will happen in the future only G knows..but I can say that we are witnessing something very big. These guys are really astounding. This is not an assault on eBay or any particular segment of the web marketplace but a fundamental re-ordering not only of commerce / advertising but of how information itself is defined. Information not just as a static whole but as a dynamic of its constituent elements.
Even in this rudimentary state, look how easy they made the process...the photos, the mash-up with Google maps, etc.
And its not a matter of G being perfect, far from it..they could be wrong, very wrong.
But what is truly admirable and equally rare is the sheer scope and audacity of their vision insofar as I can grasp it.
In a world of sequels and also-ran ploys masking as ideas, G stands alone.

Best,
Michael

Very Basic Question! Just rose from my sickbed to see this thread. Can I pull images into my google auction (it is an auction, right? and not fixed price?) from Image Hosting in Vendio?

Y'know, this seems SO BIG! Like we're all witnessing the second coming or something.

Roadsmith, it appears Google Base is fixed price.

Yes, you can use your images in Vendio
(I tried a sample listing and it worked!)

You have to type in the URL for each image.....
