I just received an irate email, sent via the ebay message format from a seller that is upset that I have not responded to his emails, stating that I am the winning bidder of his auction. Stating that I had better respond to his email and pay or he will leave negative feedback..
Whoa! First of all I never bid on his item. I checked the item number that he is talking about and it has been won by someone else not me. An item for over 400.00.
Now I'm paranoid..how did he get me confused with this buyer, and how did he get my email address?
I wrote him back immediately stating that I never bid nor won his auction and asked him how he got my email address..
No response yet.
Any advice? Should I be nervous that my information has been hijacked? help... Maggie

MAGGIE,
It was probably a phishing email. Unless it shows up on your eBay home page under messages, never reply to it!

Maggie - that is a common phish ploy. Did you sign in to answer him? If you did you might have handed over your ebay info.

Maggie...If you had to sign in to answer that email, then you need to change your password immediately. Your account is in danger of being hijacked, if it hasn't been already.
If you use the same password on other accounts, such as Paypal or Vendio, change them also.

I replied...but I just replied on my reply email server...in other words I didn't click on any respond to or enter any information..
I sent it to Ebay and they said it was a spoof or phish...oh boy do I feel foolish... been buying and selling for years and I slip up like this...
Well, since I replied without sending any information, I should be okay..right??
The sellers name and id and item were legit.. he probably has no idea someone is using his id to send these spoof mails?

Scary, isn't it? I think we've all gotten a message like the one you received--and it temporarily puts the fear of the lord into us.
