I'm getting ready to list this vase - but does anyone know if there is a name for this type of decoration? I think it is English, there's no signature - would you just call it an English Ruby Glass Vase w/ Cameo?

Holy Cow Caroline! Where on earth did you find that?? An Austrian car boot?

That vase has more styles going on than you can put in a title line.

A. I'm willing to bet that its Crystal from what I can see.

b. Jasperware cameo with a very deco boarder

c. Mosser gold and toothpick enamel

Its beautiful, horrifying,amazingly strange.

Give us a pic of the bottom. There has to be a signature on there somewhere.

Anyone want to bet that it says Lalique in Polish script, lol

Back to your original question. What to call it?

A Nightmare of Style

The result of sending Junior abroad to study art?

Wait, I get it... you said you think it is English. So that would make it a ....drumroll please....

The leaves are gilt - it is quite a mish-mash isn't it! I have a collection of gilt decorated cranberry glass that I am selling - most of it looks bohemian - but I don't know what the heck to call this thing. Good point about the jasperware cameo - I think that's exactly what it is made of - I knew it wasnt shell, ivory or plastic.

I can't find a signature on it and I looked with a loupe - the bottom just has an old label that reads English Ruby Vase that I'm about to remove to make sure there's no sig. under it - it's smooth on the base. The pic turned out crappy, I'll have to do another one later:

I've decided to call it Maude. Yes, definitely Maude.

My first though was "empire style" crossed with "art deco". Strange mix! The swag and the camero seem early 19th and the line decoration early 20th century. Maybe a 1920s designer trying to do 1820s?
