Last week I received an email from ebay saying my account may have been tampered with. I followed the correct way to change my passwords blah blah blah. Yesterday ebay sent me my regular listing ended email, however, there was spyware connected to it and now they send me emails regularly. One said my IP had been sent to 30 illegal websites. I disconnected my modem-which my husband says will change my IP. I am now changing ALL my passwords for ALL accounts and scanning and deleting viruses continuously. Any other ideas??????
Thanks!
What does this mean?? WARNING(Virus check bypassed)

The "30 illegal websites" is a spoof. I get them a lot. Download Spybot (http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html). It will detect and remove the spyware from your computer.

What do you mean by "correct way to change passwords"? Not by clicking on the link in this e-mail one would hope. If it addressed to you as Dear EBAY member, you obviously received a phishing e-mail. Did you check your messages in your My EBAY after you received this e-mail to see if it was there.

Buyhigh is right!! I don't click on anything in any email. If it's an eBay question, I go to My eBay and answer it from there.

Edited to add: About the virus thing: Almost all of us are being bombarded with those emails. Each time a new virus comes out, this is what happens. If you have good anti-virus software, you shouldn't have to worry. I get several each day. Once the virus becomes old, the emails stop.

That's what I meant by correct way of changing passwords--going directly to ebay's site and logging in. I NEVER click on any email. I downloaded spybot(THANKS SO MUCH FOR THAT) and it says nothing was found, but that's after I sat here on my computer for hours looking for that ((*&%*$&$&%*(^ adware. I found it in temp files and deleted all temp files. I've deleted all my cookies, etc. Can you tell I've been freaking out?? Norton says adware is still detected, any reason why it would still say that?

Well, first off, the "account tampered with" e-mail was a phish.
You most likely clicked-through on that e-mail, thinking you were responding to eBay and thus infected your system with a key-logger trojan.
Even if you didn't click-through on the e-mail, there are trojans that will activate simply upon displaying the e-mail.
Changing your IP is not the issue.
Trojans are tricky...many anti-virus programs don't catch them.
I use Trojan Hunter http://www.misec.net/trojanhunter/
There's a free trial that I suggest you run to see what is lurking on your PC.
Also, try double-checking your anti-virus program by running the free scan from Trend Micro:
http://www.trendmicro.com/spyware-scan/

I suggest doing so immediately.

Best,
Michael

I should have added that if after doing all of this, you still are experiencing the malware problems, you should download Hijackthis:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html
Once you run this program, you copy the log and post it to this forum:
http://forum.hijackthis.de/index.php?langid=4
where there are very knowledgeable folks who can analyze what exactly is going on and make recommendations.

Best,
Michael

Go to your local computer store immediate and purchase a ow cost "Mini Mac". this will enable you to doeverything you usually do online but save you hours upon hours of needless stress. They cost the same as your average PC.

I think Mac users fall into two groups. Those that know them and would never voluntarily use a PC again and those that simply may not be emotionally equipped to use PCs.

I've been on PCs since 1982 and I've NEVER gotten a VIRUS or any kind of "MALWARE" --

MACs are immune to VIRUSES simply because NOBODY buys or uses them...LIKE DUH!

Ignore the Mac/PC wars; both sides are WRONG.

People, listen for a change.

A computer is a tool, like a screwdriver. Would you use a Phillips screwdriver to pound in a nail? Of course not. You'd use a hammer. Or the sole of your shoe, if you happen to be a Russian.

By the way, Stop, I know Russians, and you are no Russian.

The emails sent from "ebay" are most likely spoofs. Forward them to [email protected].

I've used the handle end of a screwdriver to pound in nails on many occasions.

You mean there's something wrong with that?

The emails from ebay were real. I did receive them through ebay also. I downloaded spybot and it found 3 things 180solutions, which was what I recently received and 2 others alexa something and 1 other. They are now deleted and I feel great! Thanks for all your help!!!!! Don't know what I would have done without you. What I do know is that when you have a problem......this is the place to turn to. Thanks a bunch! Now if you could just fix my divorce I'd be in great shape.

Thanks a Bunch!

Teri
