I posted a couple of weeks ago about payments from Japan and received many great responses. Thanks. My buyer ended up paying with a Japanese Postal Money Order which I deposited in my bank account yesterday. However, my bank told me they will put an eleven day hold on the money order to make sure it clears. I just emailed my customer and I know he will be unhappy about the delay. I bank in a small town and they got burned on some U.S. Postal money orders a while back that were fakes, so I presume that is why they are being so careful. Does anyone know of any way to expedite this matter so that I don't have to wait the eleven days? Thanks for your help.

I suppose it's too late now if you've already deposited the m.o. at your bank, but I believe the Japanese postal money orders can be cashed right at the post office.
(Someone will be by shortly to correct me if I'm wrong.)

Why didn't ya take it to the PO?
Theyt are REQUIRED (as long as they have the moola -- donna go first thing in AM) to cash it for FREE for you!
It is checked by bar-code security for authenticity, so ya donna have to be worried about getting a ductway, which, believe you me, can be extremely frightening!!

And, don't forget -- cash those US Postal Money Orders at the P.O. as well so you don't have to wonder about their authenticity. We heard here first that banks were putting a hold on them - and that's what was happening here, too.
Tom -- our little P.O. uses a printed, 8x10 catalog to look for counterfeit M.O.'s Guess we're not using all the technology that's available to their counterparts, huh?

For the future.....I accepted a Japanese postal MO last year. I also live in a VERY small town. My PO cashed the MO after they looked in a book the size of a gorilla! But they cashed it.

I made the same mistake - actually the P.O. didn't have enough cash when I took it in. So I deposited it in my account and just went ahead and shipped the item. The real kicker was they ended up charging me $17 for a 'collection' because the routing numbers are not standard.
You live and you learn - I would go ahead and ship his item - it's not his fault your bank did this, plus he might be trying to get it in time for xmas.
The Japanese buyers are the most honorable I have ever dealt with - I wouldn't worry too much about it clearing.
