I always see the horror stories about new eBayers and thought I should tell about a nice one.
This guy won one of my buy it now auctions for around $50.00 and emailed me right away to say it was an accident. He did not mean to buy it and just thought he was signing in to eBay. He asked if there was any way to handle this so he would not get kicked off eBay.
I told him if he wanted to send me the aprox. $3.00 that the fees would cost me I would just forget about it and eBay would never know. He said he would send me a money order and add money for lunch for me being nice.
I just recieved a money order for $16.00 from him telling me to enjoy my lunch.

Two lessons from this story...1. People DO make honest mistakes and 2. Instead of taking the hard-lined stance ("You bid on it, you bought it", smart sellers are reasonable and offer reasonable solutions. Everyone's a winner. I recently had a bidder who paid for one item 4 times...took some time for me to refund the extra payments but I've ended up with a satisfied and grateful "newbie" customer.

that sort of thing happened to my son who is selling on ebay ... customer paid like around 3 or 4 times thru paypal, for the 1 item they bought ... he kept emailing the newbie telling them they paid too much and kept refunding their payments ... when they finally "got the hang of it", they said, "hey what kind of cell phone do you have; we are sellers of cell phone accessories" and they are sending him a slew of free stuff for his "honesty" in dealing with them ...

Thanks for sharing Toolhound. I think I see the dark clouds that have been hanging around finally start to go away.
I've noticed that buyer emails are starting to lighten up.
I had a BIN last week on a new coat. I rarely sell new clothes and I don't do returns. The minute she received the coat, she sent an email asking me what my return policy was incase it did not fit because she had bought it for a gift.
I decided to sleep on my reply and it helped A LOT!
I was able to kindly tell her that my return policy was no refunds. However, I would make an exception if she need to do the return. I would refund her original purchase price minus my ebay fees, shipping not included.
Just heard back from her. She has given the coat to her husband early and he has not taken it off all day, lol. Yeah!!!
Finally whatever evil planet was blocking the sun has moved away
