My buddy jsut got suspended from Ebay. He is a new Ebayer and has done nothing wrong. We cant figure it out.His ebay id is maricle1832.
He has attempted to Contact eBay through the appropriate links (Suspension appeals), however it asks him to sign in before he can send an e-mail. Obviously he can't sign in because he has been suspended.

I would appreciate some advice as to where to go from here.

This is the email he got.

Subject: FPA NOTICE: eBay Registration Suspension - Section 9-

Dear maricle1832,

We regret to inform you that your eBay account has been suspended due to concerns we have for the safety and integrity of the eBay community.

Per the User Agreement, Section 9, we may immediately issue a warning, temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend or terminate your membership and refuse to provide our services to you if we believe that your actions may cause financial loss or legal liability for you, our users or us. We may also take these actions if we are unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide to us.

Due to the suspension of this account, please be advised you are prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the registering of a new account.

Please note that any seller fees due to eBay will immediately become due and payable. eBay will charge any amounts you have not previously disputed to the billing method currently on file.

Regards,

Not true. There's very little on eBay you actually CAN do after you're suspended, but you can still sign in and read/send email.

Once signed in, he can send email to Customer "Support". He should expect to wait at least 8 days or until Elvis returns from the dead, whichever takes longer.

He can also make payments on his seller account, assuming he has one and is so inclined.

Don't argue about this; I've been suspended. I know.

If what ebay says is true (all emails will be addressed to the user by REAL NAME and not user name) that suspension email is a scam. It does look like he is NARU however. Did he buy all those things on DEc 2 or was his account hijacked?

He did buy those things. That is a Legit email from Ebay and his account has been suspended. I took a look at all his trasactions and he confirms they are all his.

He is new to ebay and has done nothing wrong.

I will tell him he should be able to contact Ebay via his account still, if he cant maybe his account was hijacked and ebay figured it out fast??

Your friend problably clicked the link on the scam email, and the crooks got his password. eBay's fraud prevention problably detected it somehow, and put a hold on the account.

He should be able to request a new password, and get the account activated again.

According to Ralphie, anybody who bids on:

"Bull Elk Call Grunt Tube"

DESERVES to be suspended just on principles...

Just think about it! How many elks do you know call their tubes: "GRUNT?"

Oi! The humanity!

OTOH: moose are an entirely different story!

If eBay suspects your account is hijacked, they end the suspected transactions and prevent you from bidding or selling until you contact the security department and change your password - they don't NARU you. I would guess that his credit card may have been on a suspect list or some information he provided when he registered appears invalid. He definitely needs to contact eBay security via email if he can't use eBay messaging.

Well here is an Update, he got an answer from Ebay. Looks odd to me...

Hello XXX,

I appreciate you notifying SafeHarbor with your concern.

We have strong reason to believe that your eBay account password had
been recently compromised. Although we are not able to disclose the
details surrounding the investigative procedures that led us to that
conclusion, we assure you that our action was in the best interest of
the safety of your account.

In order to prevent any fraudulent activity from occurring we chose to
temporarily close the account until we had heard from you. This process
allows us to give back sole control of the account to you with
instructions regarding the account and its future safety.

Also, If you suspect that an email you received alleging to be from eBay
may be fraudulent, please submit that email to [email protected] so that we
can investigate it further and take the necessary action. Please note
that you will receive an automated response either verifying the
authenticity or identifying the email as a fraud. Please note that eBay
will NEVER ask you to update your financial information by clicking on a
link provided in an email.

Our main goal now is restoring your account back to you as quickly and
safely as possible. To continue with your appeal we will need you to
provide proof of your identity so that we can verify ownership of your
account. To expedite the reinstatement process, please provide all of
the following documentation:

- A printed and completed copy of the Request for Reinstatement Form
along with proof that your eBay contact information is valid. If your
eBay contact information is your work address, please send official
documentation to validate it. Include your telephone number on the
documents you send us. To access this form, enter the following address
in the location or address field of your Web browser:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/poisec9reinstform.html

- A copy of your driver's license or other government issued ID. Your
name and address must be clearly visible.

- A copy of a recent credit card statement, bank statement, or utility
bill statement clearly showing your billing address. If you are
concerned about sending sensitive information, such as your Social
Security number, please black it out.

Any information submitted as a part of your appeal must be consistent
with the registration on your eBay account. Should any discrepancies
exist, we ask that you provide an explanation of those discrepancies as
well as any additional information or documentation that confirms your
explanation.

Please fax your Request for Reinstatement Form, a copy of a recent
credit card statement or utility bill statement, and proof of your
registration information (copy of your ID) to:

eBay, Attention: Section 9 Appeals
Fax Number: 877-349-1798

If sending from outside the United States, you may also use the
following fax number:
Attn: Section 9 Appeals: 001 + 801-545-2700

Please be sure to include the User ID and email address of the suspended
account you're appealing. If your fax does not contain this information,
it will not be processed.

Allow 48 to 72 hours for your request for your appeal to be processed.
Emailing us before that time will result in delays.

Any documents submitted will be destroyed after the information has been
reviewed and verified.

I understand your frustration regarding this matter and apologize for
any inconvenience it might have caused you.

Those look like REAL ebay pages to me - if someone is scamming, it is VERY GOOD. I think that the FIRST email your friend got, the one that was not addressed to his real name but to his user name, was a scam. When he responded to that he gave away his password and the scammer must have done something to catch ebay's attention to make the account suspect and they NARU'd the id. This investigation looks like its for real - but why go through the hassle to reinstate an account with 0 FB?? WHy not just get a new id and move on??

Dear pixiamom (my email address),

It appears your account was accessed by an unauthorized third party. To protect
your account from further unauthorized use, we have temporarily restricted your
account from sending email through Ask Seller a Question or Contact eBay Member,
listing and bidding on items. Additionally, the email address on your account
may have been tampered with, which is why you may not have received an email
about any unauthorized activity. We have taken steps to secure your eBay
account.

If your account was used in any unauthorized activity, such as listing items or
placing bids, this activity has been cancelled without incident. Any associated
fees were credited to your account. We assure you that your credit card
information is stored on a secure server and cannot be viewed by anyone.

To regain control of your account, please follow the steps outlined below:

1. Change the password on your personal EMAIL account to verify that it is
secure and cannot be accessed by anyone other than you.

2. Click the "Forgot your password" link on the eBay Sign In page and change
your password using the instructions provided.

3. Once you have taken steps to secure your email and create a new eBay
password, please contact our Live Help team for assistance removing the bidding
and listing restriction from your account. You can reach the Account Theft Live
Help team by taking the following steps:

- Click on the "Security Center" link found at the bottom of most eBay pages.

- Click on the "eBay Account Protection" link in the Online Security Resources
box.

- This will take you to the help page entitled Securing Your Account and
Reporting Account Theft.

- Scroll down the help page to the section entitled Contacting eBay.

- Click on the "Live help" link.

Programs that block pop-up windows may prevent you from accessing Live Help. If
this is the case, you may be able to temporarily disable the program or
configure the program to allow pop-ups on the eBay site in order to use Live
Help. Additionally, Live Help may not work with some Web browsers. If you
continue to experience difficulties, you may be able to use Live Help by
updating your browser to the most recent version or by using a different program
to access the eBay site.

If you are unable to contact eBay through Live Help after taking these steps,
please respond directly to this message to request assistance. We will contact
you by email after we have received your response.

Please be aware that there may be a delay in responses sent by email. In order
to handle your concern as quickly and efficiently as possible, we encourage you
to contact us through Live Help if you are able to do so.
