Mine is set up for auto reply but I just got the following email. I don't want it to sound flip but I don't want to leave FB until it's left for me?

"Hello,

I went to leave you positive feedback and noticed none had been left for me.
Since I payed you the day the auction ended, I can't see that as an issue.
Was there a problem?"

ladyJ:

Ralphie & I try to head them off at the pass before they get a chance to WHINE...

In our "ITEM SHIPPED" email is the following blurb:

"Auctions should be fun! If you have any questions about your purchase after
it arrives, PLEASE contact me! I check my feedback profile at least once/day
and reciprocate immediately. I'm very grateful for all the kind comments
over the past 5 years!"

>>>INSERT HERE a LINK for THEM to leave FB for ME<<<

THANKFULLY, we get virtually NO whiney emails about FB! Plus, once we went over 1000, don't really CARE about FB anymore

Dear Mr. Impatient,

I do not leave feedback until I am assured that the transaction is complete and I've satisfied all of your needs. I can only do this when I am assured that you have received the widget and are satisfied with it. I can only be assured of this once you have left feedback for me. Thank you for your note and be assured that I will do what is necessary to assure your satisfaction.

I usually don't leave a FB until it's been left for me. Only once did a person seem to be upset about that.

I have a canned response:

Regarding feedback, I am of the opinion that feedback should be entered when a transaction is truly completed. In my view, that is when you have received the item and indicate that the transaction was to your satisfaction via feedback, or, you have contacted me that there is an issue with the transaction, we resolve it in a constructive and friendly manner, and you provide appropriate feedback. Premature feedback, whether positive, neutral, or negative, cannot be changed, and there is no point in it. I know that some sellers leave feedback when they get paid, but I think that the transaction isn't complete until all parties are satisfied.

Cash, I agree, but I just put this simple phrase in my auctions:
""I leave feedback as soon as I know you're happy with your purchase.""

I answer feedback blackmail emails the same way.

So they write you back and say, "I'm happy with my purchase. Please leave me feedback."

Then you write them back...

Then they write you back...

C'mon, this is energy that can better be expended in making money. Sometimes I get into a peeing match with someone when I think I will derive some pleasure from it, but that's a weakness I'm trying to overcome because it adds nothing to my bottom line.

I simply tell them I don't participate in Ebay's feedback program, but as a courtesy to my customers, I will reciprocate in kind for any feedback left for me.

This is the email I got from my buyer:

I paid promptly. There is NOTHING else I can do to earn positive feedback. It is not fair to withhold feedback until I leave some for you.

Please reconsider your feedback policy and leave positive feedback for prompt payment.

It states in my auction and in my email when I let them know I shipped there item:

Feedback is Automatically left by my program once it is received.

I wrote back to him and said:

Yes, you did pay promptly, and I also Shipped Quickly...........but the transaction is not complete until you receive your item, thats when the total transaction is ended. This is only the first part of the transaction. When it has completed Now is the time you leave your feedback since you are the receiver of the item , and I promply will respond with your feedback, You will not miss out receiving your postive feedback.

When I purchase items on ebay that is how it is done also, when i receive the time I leave feedback and I receive feedback back, this is the way it is done.

He did not write back to me........lol

Thanks for the good suggestions. I do send a letter with all my items stating that positive will be left within 2 to 3 days of receiving positive FB. I guess they didn't read my letter???

In my boiler plate it clearly says "I return like type feedback"

Whenever I get a whine I just refer them to my ad.

I get very few feedbacks any more but I don't care and have not got a negative in over three years. Stick to your guns and stop all those emails. They either comply or they don't. Who cares....David

I just leave feedback when I ship and then I don't have to deal with it again. As Fluffy noted, I have better things to do than to worry about FB and the "who does what for whom first argument".

I agree with Fluffy in that it is pointless to get caught up in the feedback argument with someone who is basically just buying feedback. I'll never understand why buyers care so much about feedback, maybe the big whiners have really low self esteem and like to look at their feedback profile to see what a great person they are because they did what they were supposed to do, pay right away! These days I mostly ignore the pleas to leave feedback, because everytime I've taken the bait, it has been a waste of time. My email I send after I receive payment explains my feedback policy, in a nice way - that because of the large number of feedbacks I would have to leave, I have it automated to return it within an hour of receiving it.

Regarding the time spent replying to a FB request: I'm a low-volume seller, and I don't recall ever getting more than 2 feedback requests in a month. I use the Vendio mail handler, so replying with the canned response takes 4 seconds maybe. I think I'll still have time left over to work and read this forum before the sun goes down

P.S. I fully appreciate that higher volume sellers would find it a bother to deal with the requests. Even during a good month, however, I seldom list more than 200 auctions.

Respond as follows:

"Hello,

I went to leave you positive feedback and noticed none had been left for me.
Since I mailed your item the day the payment was received, I can't see that as an issue.
Was there a problem?"

Some sellers are too lazy to ever leave feedback. If a buyer leaves you positive feedback and asks for it in return, what's the harm in immediately reciprocating?

They have withheld their FB until I leave it for them. After my first month or two on ebay (and checking here) I decide never to leave FB first. Leave it for me - don't leave it for me - at 1700+ FB I don't care. If you want it from me - leave it first.

Sorry, Ladyjewels. I thought they had left you feedback and noticed you hadn't left them any. This occasionally happens to me and I get email from low-feedback buyers asking for feedback.

I also state in listings that feedback is left in response to receiving it myself. Once and a while I get a "Where's my feedback" and I email them telling them I use a automated program that automatically responds to feedbacks I receive and that if they check their feedback a minute after leaving it for me they will find they will also have received feedback.

Got in a email war with one idiot one time and he of course threatened to leave me neg feedback if I did not leave positive for him first. Told him the policy. He didn't like it (no supprise) and he felt I was holding his feedback hostage (wooopieee). Of course I got a neg, and he got the same in return. I no longer argue with these idiots and just send the reply about automated reply's. If they don't like it, go complain to someone who gives a **** because that's all the further contact I will have with them other than blocking their ID from future bidding.

Huh. I don't believe I have ever been asked for FB, other than when someone lets me know they received their item and left feedback -- "please do the same for me." Natch.

My shipping notice with their DC or tracking number does say "please let me know your purchase arrives safely, which is my trigger to leave feedback for this transaction." Now, if you don't communicate with the buyer after squarfing up their payment, that obviously won't work.

I had 2 request for FB this week. One had left it but I had relisted bypassing Vendio so it wasn't returned as it should have been - so I promptly left their FB.
