I have mixed feeling about this year's 10-cent day.

- too many items listed at once
- not enough bidders for those items
- after holidays, so no gift buyers
- after holidays, less money to be spent
- sell though rates expected to be very low
- ending prices are expected to be supressed
- no bidders from school computer
- problably few bidders from work locations
- people still on extended vacations won't be bidding

I decided to sit this one out. (I usually list 200-300 for FLD or 10-cent days)

It is problably a better time to buy than sell. I'm sure there must be some great deals this week.

I wish everyone the best of luck, and a Happy New Year.

I think like life you get out of 10 cent day what you put in to it. I always put on items I have not had up for auction and mostly good stuff $25.00 to $150.00 area. In the past 8 years I have always done good and I think I will this year too.

i've always had an opinion about post holiday sales that proved true for me.

many people are so stressed and tired from the holidays that they prefer staying at home and shopping on the computer.

i always had good sales then. many of us start shopping right after christmas for the next christmas, with 21 grandchildren that is the only way to get it done.

after christmas many people can focus on what they wanted and didn't get, buy for themselves.

At least 75% of my sales from yesterday's listings will go to people in that group.

Happy New Year sthoemke!

This is the first time I took part in the 10 cents listing, what I did was take listings out of my store and sent them to a fixed price listing and already I have been selling items that were not selling.

What didn't sell on auction I have been sending to my store just waiting for the 10 cents listing day. I picked 46 items to list, what doesn't sell goes back into my store.......lol

I didn't put any new listings up just used the listings I had in my store.

There may be a lot of items listed as you mentioned but everyone is listing different items so I don't worry about how much is listed during the 10 cents listing day.

The price was right for listing so why not give it a try, I didn't use the Gallery feature except on two of my items.

I too, have a hard time understanding the complaining about FLD-type days. I primarily do fixed price listings, so lack of bids and buyers are somewhat less relevant for me. I either get the price I want or I don't. I don't need multiple bids.

I also find that people still have money to spend. I sell things that are foten hard to find locally, so people getting cash for xmas often come to me to spend it.

Also, now that the holiday insanity is over, people start settling in for the winter. They start to look for something to do now that they have some spare time. That's where I come in.

Obviously, like everything else involving eBay, it depends on what you sell. But don't make generalizations that do not apply to everyone.

Fluffy, sorry no hard data available - just my opinions.

I'm sure everything depends on what you sell, your established buyer base, etc.

I think the 10-cent day is great for fixed priced items and higher-priced auction items.

I'm probably being too critical about after Christmas shopping.

I am having a lot of sales out of my E-Bay store as well as listings going off on FP, I am real happy with it.

First I would like to thank Steve for not listing on this 10 cent day. That means less items for bidders to pass over to get to my listings.

Second, Fluffy is correct. Going back six years and checking my figures, the three weeks after Christmas have traditionally been the best selling weeks of the year. People still have money and tax time hasn't quite come yet. And people are looking for those AFTER Christmas clearances. And what amazes me even more, at how many people bid on items that don't have pictures. I list all my items first, then go back and add the pictures later. Judging by activity so far, I can state that this year, the 10 cent day will continue to be one of the best times of the year for sales. I have had many already.

Also, fluffy stated in another thread about people not looking at ending items first. That simply isn't true. That is actually the default search. What I have found to be true is most people search ending times first. Some will change the search to newly listed first. This is why you get bids early, then few during the duration, then many on the last day. Thus, if you have a hot item, a 3 day listing will always bring more than a 7 day listing. However, slower moving items will need the extra time for the right buyer to actually see the listing.

I go for the higher priced items as well. I'm happy to say I already have a bid on one $150.00 item with lots of watcher and 5 days to go!!!
I also relisted a few higher priced items that didn't sell before. I figure it cost almost nothing and if it sells great - if not it's a write off anyway.

Fluff - I love your posts but voice of the consumer? Not a role I visualized for you, but entertaining anyway!

I can also state the same. Since I don't accept PayPal credit cards, my credit card customers actually call me on our toll free number. It is very interesting talking with people. And fluffy is pretty full of herself today. You are not the only cat on the block as they would say. This is also how I am finding out that more and more buyers are turning away from ebay and going to trustworthy websites.

Don't know about the US 10c results, but the 29 Dec UK 5p results so far have been better than expected.

Listed 25 items, and sold five within the first two days before 2005 had even ended! All listing are Fixed Price with Offer enabled, and as usual a few watchers on most plus racking up the views according to the counters. Needless to say they are all (so far) cash buyers from the UK, Europe and Japan. Mind you we purposely target our higher-priced items to markets where "Cash is King" i.e. bank transfers or remittences; no credit cards or chargebacks please

Kenzy listed 300 items and will sell at least 20... probably closer to 50 as the snipers hit at the last minute.

Made enough in the current 19-items-with-bids to more than pay for the $30.00 in listing fees.

I must say I was very pleased with my results. I went for the high priced items and made almost a $1000.00. Great start to the month.
