Grrr, I'm trying to make a listing with "local pick up only" and it's killing me. I am creating with SMPro and it keeps telling me I need to sellect at least one valid shipping carrier. I have sellected Local pick up only in the options but it still ask for a carrier. Any help??? Mike

You might have to change your preferences under My Account, synch with SMPro, then change them back after you're done.

I was woundering if that was what I would have to do. That just plain sucks. So every time I want to sell a heavy item with pick up only and no shipping options I will have to change my account setting's and then change them back. PITA

or just post the auction with one shipping service and then revise it after launch. Probably much safer than changing your preferences just incase you forget to change them back!

Not sure about listing it through Vendio - but I know when I did an Ebay listing for local pickup only, something glitched and it ended up showing as free shipping!

Of course it sold before I noticed it - and it was to one of my regular customers, so I ended up honoring it as I could UPS it for $25. But darn it, I should have double checked the listing.

Vendio changed my UK, Germany, NY, and CA profiles (to name only a few) from will ship worldwide to Local pickup only. Cost me hundreds, they gave me a $10 credir. That's why I love Vendio!

I figured out a way to do it. I created them in SMPro and just put in some bogus shipping info and synched with Vendio and did not schedule them for launch. Went to Vendio and edited the listing. I selected not specifying shipping for checkout and sellected a other shipping block and put $0.00 Local Pickup Only and made it very clear in the listing text that it is local pick up only. Don't want to get stuck on this one because it is a truck lift that weigh's over 5,000 pounds. Can't even imagine what transportation cost would be on this one and I don't want to find out either

Mike...Jackswebb lists quite a few items that are too big and bulky to ship, for local pickup only. According to many of his posts, there will always be some moron that lives 2500 miles away that will bid on those auctions regardless of what you put in the TOS, and if they win, the first question they ask is "how much is shipping?". It wouldn't hurt to get a quote from ABF or Yellow for shipping from your location in Pa. to San Diego or Seattle and have it ready.

Nope, not on this one. Normally even large items I will quote shipping but this one's just to big. 27 feet long x 8 feet wide and weighs in at about 5,500 pounds. If they want it shipped they will have to do what I put in the listing which is arrange for your own transportation. I'm not even going to try to palletize this monster. I can help them load it with a fork lift however. If they can't read english or just don't read the description that's to bad, I'll just offer it to the next highest bidder that could.

Mike,

I wish I had seen this before you went through all the trouble. If my memory serves me, all you have to do on the second tab (of SMPro) is indicate that it is for local pickup only. On the shipping tab (3rd), uncheck anything that is checked by default and check one of the "ad hoc" shipping options, type in "Pickup your-location CASH ONLY", and enter 0.00 in the amount column. Go to the insurance tab and mark it not offered.

Thanks Claude. I knew there had to be a easier way of doing it. I just started using SMPro last week. I have made listings before that were pick up only but they were created online. Just couldn't figure out what I was not unchecking in SMPro. I have made a postie note with what to do next time should I need it. Thanks again.

Mike,

Welcome to the wonderful world of SMPro! I find it so simple to use (after you get accustomed to it, anyway), and I really like being able to search (on my file server) for really old auctions that are for a similar item I am listing now. It is really simple to re-use descriptions.

I'm sure that there are fans of the online method, but since I am a low volume (but generally high $) seller, this works best for me.

I am getting to like the SMPro better than the online version. One thing I really like is that while I am doing a synch I can be online with vendio doing other thing's. Before when I was uploading pictures either through vendio or using the bulk upload through windows I could not do anything on vendio until it was done. I'm not a huge seller either but some of my auctions from time to time do have 300-500 pictures in them so the picture upload can take some time. Another added bonus is it's just plain faster to make a listing. No waiting for upload/download. Make your listing's and then synch the systems.

HOLY SMOKES! I thought I was a bit over the top whenever I include 20 or more photos (which I do seldom). Do you really include 300-500 photos in one auction, or did you mean one batch of auctions?

I ment 300 to 500 in one auction. I from time to time sell large stamp collections and one collection may have 5 to 10 albums and box's full of stamps. A single collection may have over 100,000 stamps so the more I get pictured to show a potential buyer the more I will make. I think my highest ever was just over 600 pictures in one listing. It is normal practice if you check other stamp sellers on ebay that are selling high end collections. Stamp collections are probably the exception to the rule for number of photo's in a single listing when compared to the majority of other items being sold.
