for Valentines gift buying? I have had many buyers lately ask me if I would discount a percentage off if they bought more than one item. Is this something new? I combine shipping and have had people ask for discounts there as well ....such as..one item ships for $5.95 can you ship both for $4.00 LOL. I have never been to an auction where I got a % off for buying more than one thing. Did I fall asleep and miss an enhancement???

I have seen a couple of sellers on ebay over the years that do offer a discount on multiple item purchases. Usually only store items though so I'm sure they have their prices over inflated to start with so when you buy more than one item you are actually getting them at what I would consider a regular price after they give you the discount. Just another sales gimmick to lure in potential buyers.
As far as shipping two items for less than the cost of one I would tell them to take a hike. There's alway's someone looking to get something for nothing.

I offer a 10% discount when 5 or more items are purchased. I think it helps to get people to look at the items listed in my store.

If you have an eBay store, there is a site that I use called http://www.mystorecredit.com. You can set credit amounts. What happens is they buy one thing and get a credit for the next thing they buy over $10 based on your criteria. It's $30 for the year and they keep track of everything. I've gotten several repeat purchases because of this.

It's common to for postcard sellers to combine shipping. Although adding a card can bump my shipping cost up 84 cents, I ship additional cards ordered for free. I'd rather double or triple the size of the order than make money on shipping single cards. I have a promo that orders of three or more cards ship for free and it has increased sales.

I ship as inexpensive as I can and on multiple items if I can combine and still ship them well packed I do so. Most customers appreciate that. The ones that irk me are the ones who buy a 8 pound item and a 8oz item and want it all shipped for the 8 oz price. The discount sounds good and I would love to offer it, but I can't offer that and keep my shirt too.

I offer reduced shipping cost for more than 1 purchase - I not only combine the items and ship for actual cost, but discount that by $1 - you'd be surprised how much bidders like that 'promo'. You may also be surprised how a winning bidder may up the selling price while they're trying to win the 2nd item.
I had one person by 2 Buy it Now items just before xmas for a total of $3,400 - she then asked for free shipping - she had wanted to use the Make an Offer feature and offer a bit less, but was worried the items would sell in the meantime. For that amount of a sale - I overnighted it to her insured for free since I would have accepted $3,000 for both in a heartbeat.
If you are selling items for $100 or more, I think it is worth it to offer this type of discount, but under $100 would really hurt - I guess it also depends on your profit margin.
