Plastic cameo pin. Super lite weight (5 grams total) and metal feels like tin. Could this be a childs toy ? Junk ? Worth listing ? Edited to add plastic feels like a cheap childs toy .

Excellant photos... I believe what you have is late Victorian. The c-clasp mechanism is vintage. It sure looks like an early plastic, celluliod, cameo to me... I'd list it as such and do a $9.99 let it roll. Ones womans advise!

Are you absolutely sure it's plastic and not shell? I agree that it's old, seeing the clasp on the back. Nice item!

Thanks bjboswell and roadsmith ! I'm really really sure its plastic...can do a thump with my fingers on the front and you can tell from the hollow cheap plastic sound...reminds me of this doll but the plastics just a tad thicker

yup...shell is open is the back (so it can breath? I think thats the reason ) and you can hold it up to a light to check for cracks or to show it has no cracks

Not this piece stopwhining, I was just saying in general that shell was open back. This piece is some kind of plastic. Are shell cameo open in the back cause they have to breath ? Kinda like a pearl right ?

Could it be celluloid? That would probably add to the value - I think? Old celluloid can be paper thin.
hwahwa - does that cold test work on Jade?

if it is shell, then it is carved not molded, cant you tell if the piece is molded or carved??
stone, glass are cold to the touch, jade is poor conductor of heat,so it is cold, but so is glass.
jade is also compact for its size, and opaque not transparent, cannot be scratched by a true stainless steel knife like a swiss pen knife, but the polymer jade these days cannot be scratched ,neither can aventurine, whch often pass as jade.
also diamond, ruby and saphire cannot be scratched.
stones whch are sold as jade imposters are -aventurine,serpertine,soapstone,chrysophrase,bowenite,quartz or any white or green colored stone, and of course polymer jade which is low quality jade subjected to high pressure, inject with dye and then stabilised with resin.
There are tons of polymer jade on Ebay
