I've got several items like this. They're brown ceramic and have moriage painting. They're marked "Japan" on the bottom. Is there a specific name? Also...I thought items made for export had the country of origin ONLY between 1890 and 1921...after that, they had "Made in...". These are marked ONLY "Japan" but I'm 99.9999% sure they are NOT old. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks, as always, for any help.

After 1953, the Japanese were free to mark their pottery any way they please with very few exceptions.

It is brownware. Probably made in the 1950's or '60's. Bought at the dimestore. Usually not worth the listing fees.

A knock off of English brownware which should have been worth something until the Japan copies ruined the market.

btw, also known as redware if the any of the unglazed surfaces show it is made from red clay.
