I wish that ebay would put the watchers counter right on the auction. I think if they did it would encourage folks to bid knowing that there other bidders watching an item, that is when you get an item that attracts watchers.

What do you all think, I don't think it would be very hard for ebay to do this right, I could be wrong this is ebay we are talking about and we all know that they do not follow the KISS philosophy.

I likee! Great idea, but they probably think we would log in under other accounts and watch our own items thus generating panic

I have often thought the same thing, a good idea.

cashinyourcloset - Shill watching, LOL. It wouldn't suprise me.

"Shill Watching" - LOL

If we could just get a bunch (or at least one or two) BUYERS or potential buyers to say they wanted it...it would be implemented no later than next week.

I think it would encourage bidding. Just like having bids on an item seems to inspire others to bid.

I think I would like that too. Anything to let bidders know they are not the only ones out there.

You have got to be kidding me. All this would do is encourage potential bidders to move on to the next item as they don't want to compete with someone who is already watching. The watch system is totally broken now and you want to expand it? It will simply be another in the many failures of the ebay system.

This is actually one of the driving points for listing items at $1/NR. When people see bidding taking place, they jump in too. It does NOT move them on to the next thing, as Stone thinks.

For many reasons, it's the girl who already has a boyfriend that gets the phone calls, even if there's an equally pretty, friendly, intelligent, funny, etc. girl without one.

I wouldn't mind making watchers a public stat, but you can get all the benefits of that, and more, by doing $1/NR auctions. These are safe to do in LIQUID, highly efficient markets; do not always do so.

It clearly does. With STR's at an all time low, and items also selling at all time low prices, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why. The watch system clearly hurts sellers. What it causes is someone to watch instead of bid. Then in the end, they do not bid anyway. Not an opinion. I have seen it time and time again.

OK. I'm guilty! I am a watcher.
But from' watching', I often became a 'buyer'.
And as a new Powerseller ( ahem!!) I find that I need to constanly 'watch' my competition.

My items are between $50 and $350 evry day. Some weeks are good. Some days are terrible and only eBay is making $$ from me.
I am not really concerned who watches my auction, I am interested in who bids! And how many hits the auction generates.
If an item is not getting enuf hits, I need to know, so I can make chages or even move to another catagory.

Recently, Vendio has been causing me concern because too many of my listings now have N/A where my hits should be.
