I just found this quote while reading.... seems rather appropriate for the times!
"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."
James Madison, while a United States Congressman
It stuns me that so few men (and 1 woman) could cause so much heart ache and destruction to ... well the rest of the world! My dear nephew left for Iraq last Sat.I write to GWB every day, have for years... Sunday I could not come up with a letter that was non threatning... no Secret Service at my door... I'm a pacifist at heart but I can dislike big time! Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

Thank you all for your prayers for Kevin and my brother. I am reminded so many times of a statement made by Rodney King the day the police were found innocent of beating him ... "Can't we all just get along?" I think that is one of the simplest, most profound statements anyone has ever made. I pray every day and ask GWB why... WHY can't we all just get along? I am in a pray group at my church and we have peace at the top of our list.

If you had told me a few years ago that today we'd be debating just where the fine line is that makes something torture, that we'd have the executive branch brazenly stating that they're above the law, shipping people to foreign countries because they do a better job at torture, having debates about how many stem cells can dance on the head of a pin when we have an epidemic of diabetes, have tax cuts only for the super wealthy and very poor (on the backs of the middle) even in a time of war, be unable to provide the most basic protections in the aftermath of a storm, pass laws that force a woman who is the victim of rape or incest to carry to term, refuse financial aid to organizations that include instruction on condom use, disallow a vaccine that would almost eliminate uterine cancer because it might encourage sex by teenagers, allow brazen profiteering at the highest levels of government, well, back then I would have told you that you were nuts.

CASH I COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF. This administration is ugly. To think that just 7 shirt years ago the American public was offended because the President had "sex"... kinda sorta... with an intern in a closet! My my for the good ole days....Bill Clinton was at least only hurting himself and his family not the world and EVERYONE in it!
Oh and least we forget no child left behind... is that in the line-up for the march off to war! OH OH I'm sorry, it was reading, writing and arithmatic and we forgot to fund that one!

Did anyone see the TV program Boston Legal last Tuesday?? I would like to get a tape of the program just to rehear the defense attorneys closing statements again. It was about how the Bill of Rights is being ignored day after day, by everyday well intentioned American Citizens...how we are letting our country become something much different than the original founding fathers intended. The gist of it was...No weapons of mass destruction??? Oh, well. We demean, torture and debase other people?...Oh, well. Sell our ports to foreign (enemy?)powers?..oh, well. Let our national debt get so out of control that it seems impossible to ever crawl out of the hole?...oh well. There is really much more that could be added here but time and my old memory are short. I DO know that it frightens me and I dont know what an individual can do to make a difference. There is no more pride in the feeling of doing the "right" thing...its everyone for himself...get what you can when you can. We should be ashamed of ourselves

bj - I also will pray for your nephew and thank you for all the nice things you said on my OT thread.
I didn't want to bring it up again for fear it would cause more of a ruckus. My intent in posting the thread in the first place was grief derived and a desire to make everyone aware that traffic fatalities (the same holds true with war casualities) are not just statistics.
Does GWB ever answer your letters?

Neglus, LOL I'm smiling BIG... Everyday I write to the White House and "air" my thoughts for the day. Every day I get a nice form letter back from the White House thanking me for taking the time to write to "our" President.I'm sure someone has the job of scanning through all the mail they must get and someone knows how I feel but I have NO doubt that it is not GWB! Heck they couldn't even have an open event for ALL citizens to go to and participate in during his re-election. Even here in New Hampshire where we having been meeting, greeting and grilling candidate's since I was 6 years old... you had to have an official issued by the RNC, pass and badge, to get into any campaign event. Sad for us that he is so isolated...The first candidate I remember personally is DD Eisenhower. I was on my dads shoulders in front of our town building,it was snowing and cold... but he answered questions from anyone who had one. During the last primary season the only candidate who did not show up for those kinds of personal events was GWB. He went through the state on a bus with his name plastered to the sides... I should say he went from the airport to the one or 2 events that were bleached for his arrival. The man does not have a clue!
Neglus last week my dear niece had an accident with my sisters car. She is 19, was going to fast not paying attention ect ect.. I was so concerned because she has been crusing towards this for some time now... you can just see the path sometimes... I sent her a copy of your thread. She is a 4.0 student studying to be a youth Minister... it was not lost on her. She thanked me, cried and said boy am I dumb... I said "no, your not dumb.. just young"! I know your nephew was smiling that he did make a difference.
