I have had a number of international sales that have all gone well so I am not opposed to selling to foreign buyers. I have even accepted PayPal from England although I held my breath until she received the package and told me all was well. Today I find I have a sale from our online antique mall shop for a book to Spain that specifies PayPal. I have never shipped to Spain. Is the postal system reliable? I expect there is no PayPal coverage. The post office does not list Spain as a country that accepts international money orders. Can they send them?
Thanks to any of you who can give me the benefit of your experience.

I can't answer all your questions, but I will say that I've shipped to Spain with no problems.

Hwahwa,
This is a website sale and not eBay. Guess I have to risk it, reject the sale, or try to negotiate a different payment plan. I was just trying to get some idea of the degree of risk and if there was a better plan from Spain. It is not a big sale but I want to update my payment preferences to be a little more specific overall.

I have shipped many items to Spain and had no problems. If you do not want PayPal you can ask for a Western Union transfer. He can get it at any Western Union office and you get the number for it and then go to currncy exchange or who ever has Western Union and pick up the cash. I have a number of customers over seas who do that.

Thanks bills, I appreciate the feedback. Wish that international money orders were available from more countries.

Yes I know. In reality they do though as long as they have a Western Union office they can get to. It is not cheap to use but then International Postal Money orders aren't either.

International money orders are available in Spain. Just make sure to tell your buyer that it must say "Drawn from funds from a bank in the USA".

How much money is involved? How can anybody give any reasonable suggestions if they don't know how much money is involved? We could be talking about a $12 item here, and the suggestion that they spend $15 on Western Union now is unreasonable. However much is involved, there's no protection with Paypal. It's up to you what your risk tolerance is.

I accepted the PayPal transaction. It is only in the $30s so I can tolerate the risk. My sister says I have read too many horror stories on eBay Outlook.
Now to see if she will go for the postage. I find that a good number of my international sales disappear when they lean the postage. Unlike eBay there is no penalty from the cyber mall if they don't follow up.
Thanks all for the advice.
