I signed onto AOL with my screen name HWAHWA,so my email address is [email protected]
Then,I let someone used my PC to register with Ebay and my email addr is on the registration screen.
How does Ebay know my email address?
What should he do to register if he does not have a pc or account with an internet service provider?/

Hi
Maybe you need to make a new account name with AOL and then let him sign on with the new AOL sign on New Name, because I have 5 names with AOL and each one will have the email address associated with the sign on name, just like your sign on name has.

It's because they linked your account info to a cookie they deposited on your hard drive. You have to log out of Ebay, and delete your cookies before someone else can use your PC to register on Ebay to insure a glitch free process. If they will be using your PC for Ebay with their own account, they can use one of your screen names to register with, but they have to remember to log off Ebay each time they sign off so you can use your account. Only one Ebay account at a time can be actively logged into with a single PC. It would be much simpler if they used a Yahoo account for their Ebay email address.

well,Spartz,I tried deleting cookies, temp files etc and logged off the pc and log back on and sign on to AOL with my screen name HWAHWA.
Then I went to Ebay and try to register for my friend, what do you know,my email addr is on the registration page??
It seems Ebay is able to pick up the email addr from AOL?

try it ,see if you go to the registration screen,do you see your email address there??

HWAHWA - eBay has been testing its new psychic signup tool in Austin TX (operation: cookie monster). Your new eBay account will now be forever linked to your old eBay accounts so you better make sure the new one of your 'friend' is never hijacked or compromised as that could result in the suspension of your original eBay account(s). But I'm sure you already knew that...

What should he do to register if he does not have a pc or account with an internet service provider?

Go to an internet cafe or library and sign up there. Or tell them to do it at school or work. They'll need computer access if they ever want to check their bids/sales and emails.

hwahwa

I use AOL and if I sign onto to ebay using another AOL screen name the email address would show the name.

for example
make a screen name on AOL.....xyxy @aol.com
when you sign onto to ebay use that name do not use your screen name to sign on to your computer, you need to use the xyxy sign in name .........then go to Ebay and reg.

I did it with 5 names and im sure you can also.

well,I create a new screen name and sign on to aol with that screen name, lets call it [email protected].
Now this is just created,no one knows it,not Ebay not amzn.
Okay then I go to Ebay and register, what do you know ,this email addr [email protected] is already on the registration screen.
So somehow this email addr is being passed on to Ebay.
Is this just AOL or is this with every internet service provider??

Your browser swallowed a cookie. Now Doubleclick knows everything about you so they can sell your details for profit. AOL aka AOHell has a partnership with eBay to sell/pass along data. Think it's been going on since the AOL Time Warner deal but I'd have to check to be sure. Note: only applicable to USA as most other countries have much stricter privacy laws.

If any one is using AOL as an ISP they are being comprised costantly. They will sell your mother if they could. Agitprop is right when he says AOHell. AOL is the worst ISP in the whole world. They have been losing money for years and will amke any deal they can to try to shore there profits up.

I have SBC Yahoodsl and NO there is no user name when I go to registration page.

But would be good idea if you did not use the AOL browser just use internet explorer to go to registration page and see if that makes a difference??? I don't recommend AOL browser for anything, My aunt has AOL and it is a drag to get around in it I showed her she didn't have to use their browser at all. If it is like it use to be sign in close browser but not sign out and then open IE or some other browser like netscape or mozilla? be worth a try.Dump all your cookies before opening IE.

I have AOL since 1997 and at the beginning it was a good service and reliable service

I have Cable Hook up for 4 years and I never use AOL browser I use Mozilla Firefox for everything.

I keep AOL for my email address and the easy features they offer, if it wasn't for this I would dump AOL in a flash. Someone told me you can use AOL email free without being a member but I don't know how true this is.

I think AOL has a feature where you can access AOL for a small fee without being an AOL member .
I will try IE or Mozlla and see if EBay still pick up my email addr on the registration page.

Ebay puts a tracking cookie on your computer any time you go to any ebay page. When registering, it was reading your computer and pre-filling in information it thought was correct.

Everyone here is over-reacting. All you need to do is erase the wrong e-mail address and put in the correct one during the registration process. The proceed as normal.

there is no way you can erase the pre filled email addr on the registration screen.
Anyway,I use IE to register on Ebay,my email addr is not prefilled,so it is AOL /Ebay deal!!

Not true. Just click in the box, hit the back space and then fill in your own info.

Done.
