turn it clockwise 180 degrees, because there are some serious Chinese bidders on Ebay.
The red marking said BIG QING QIAN LONG,which is Qing Dynasty QING LONG EMPEROR,looks like a modern day repro.

The Made in Hong Kong is a dead giveaway that this is a newer plate. Still, I like it. Look closely at the decoration and then do a Google search on some of them. Some mean different things in China. Maybe you could emphasize the rooster and mention the Year of the Rooster. You could add this to your auction:
1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005
People born in the Year of the Rooster are deep thinkers, capable, and talented. They like to be busy and are devoted beyond their capabilities and are deeply disappointed if they fail. People born in the Rooster Year are often a bit eccentric, and often have rather difficult relationship with others. They always think they are right and usually are! They frequently are loners and though they give the outward impression of being adventurous, they are timid. Rooster peopleˇ¦s emotions like their fortunes, swing very high to very low. They can be selfish and too outspoken, but are always interesting and can be extremely brave. They are most compatible with Ox, Snake, and Dragon.

The mark is now facing the right direction!
Karen
It would make no difference in this case. Either direction would produce the same thing when rotating 180 degrees. Anything under that is a different story, though.

yes,it does make a difference which way it turns,as these characters are meant to be read starting from the upper right corner, down to lower right and the up to upper left ,then down to lower left.
However they can also be written so it starts from left to right.
you have to recognise these characters and what they mean when gauging how to read them-wether it is from left to right or from right to left.
You may as well copy those characters in your notebook as during his rule, many fine pieces were produced, and most modern day repros carry his mark .
LOL! You at first had me thinking I was crazy. 180 degrees in upside down. That's how I remember it.
Sorry if I sounded cranky. I'm taking Zyban right now to quit smoking and it's making me a bit crabby because it interfers with my sleep. All the lost sleep will be worth it if I finally quit. Again.

I don't know how you rotated the image 180 degrees but this is what I got doing it in Paint shop pro
Notice the upper right mark is now on lower left and the gold tag is also right side up.... This is a true 180 rotation no difference in either direction but changes view considerably...

KarenMx, what is FWIW I am being a little dense today I guess. You are right 180 change is a ˝ turn with no difference going either way. What I was showing is that a 180 degree turn is a different view from original image. I think that cblev65252 image interpretation is NOT a 180 rotation but a 360 therefore his images are same as original image and no difference either but in view their is a difference in 180 and a 360 rotation. See his images they are exactly as the original image. Mine is as some say upside down or right side up depending on interpretation.

The original image I provided was rotated 180-degrees AFTER the recommendation to do so.
It was originally positioned as irked has it now -- and was corrected to its current position - which is exactly 180-degrees or a 1/2 turn and not a full 360.
Cheryl's illustration is exactly correct in that she rotated the image from its original position.

Actually it does not really matter, anyone who knows how to read Kansi characters and want to bid on the item will rotate it on his own PC and those who dont read Kansi ,really makes no difference how it is presented.
This emperor was very much into arts and culture ,there were many fine pieces produced during his reign.
The Chinese have become rather affluent,1 billion US dollars goes to China each month and with all that money sloshing around, they want their antiques back!!

rooster does not get along with snake or any reptile,by nature roosters are great peckers they just keep pecking and pecking for worms, and a snake is a worm in disguise!!
It is also not easy for a rooster to get along with dragon as rooster is the local BIG SHOT while dragon is the real thing-emperors are deemed sons of dragons descended from Heaven!!
