I was wondering if any of you have experience shipping to South Korea?

I have a small item which could be easily sent in a USPS Global Priority mail envelope. Not very expensive, so it's not a huge risk for me financially. Buyer has decent feedback and has inquired before placing his bid so I don't think he's likely out to rip me off.

Is shipping to South Korea similar to shipping to Mexico or Italy? (ie. it might take forever and may or may not every arrive safely)

Just hoping that one of you might have had experiences on shipping to South Korea and might be able to share your thoughts and give me a bit of guidance.

Your best bet is to ship it Letter Post Air Mail. It will take about a week and is now trackable with the customs form barcode. Plus it is reasonable in cost making it your best bang for the buck.

I have shipped to South Korea,no problm,but the last bidder said he has problem receiving his packages.When I heard that,I charged him USPS express mail so it is trackable!!
You can ship Global priority mail and then buy insurance from U-PIC or DSI.
/ lets all stop whining !! /

The customs tracking does not work on Letter Post items. It is for Parcel Post items.

As far as delivery is concerned. I was stationed in South Korea in the Army for 1 1/2 years in the 80's and never had a problem getting my mail. I had a flat off post so the mail was not going to the post APO address but through the regular South Korean mail system.

I've written the potential buyer and let him know that he can go ahead and make the purchase if he wishes.
I've shipped to many places throughout Europe, plus Australia and Japan, but South Korea is a new one for me. I really appreciate everyone's input in helping me make my decision. Thanks again!

US dollars are easy to obtain in South Korea, and even USPS Postal Money orders can be bought at the Post Office on any of the many US bases. (Same is applicable to Japan especially formerly US controlled Okinawa.)

Oh yes it does. You just have to remember to write down the customs number or remember to save the PO receipt. It will be imprinted on it. The bar code on the little green slip is all they need. Most of my international only requires the little green slip and it works just fine.

Umm, maybe you need to check with the Post Office there stone. You may by chance from time to time get lucky and have someone in the mail stream screw up and scan those little green customs forms but THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED TO. The only forms they are required to scan are the larger PS 2976-S forms on PARCEL POST items. This move by the US Postal Service was due to the new addition of indemnity coverage on PARCEL POST items and NOT on Letter Post. This is also why the back of the new PS 2976-A forms has changed. If you would like I can spout off a load of Postal Service regulations for you.

I guess then you cannot explain how the little green forms are trackable then.
No need to get into a hissy fit with bulls--- regulations you can find. Reality is they are trackable.

stone - I'm not looking for a argument either. I just know from first hand experience that the majority of the time (80-90%) when I tried to check shipment status using the CN22 form it only tracks as far as leaving the country. But with ALL the PS Form 2976-A forms I enter I can track the package from drop off to delivery. I think the biger problem is with PayPal though. I have found that even the PS Form 2976-A numbers can only be tracked for information on what happened within the US (packages to Canada seem to be a exception). Once it leaves the US the tracking has to be done on the receiving countrys Postal Service website. I have not heard what the "verdict" is from PayPal as to if they will or will not accept the foreign country's website information as proof of delivery. I guess luckily I have not had to find out.

Wow,

People actually still fill out the little custom forms? Under 16 ounces and it is not required. Over 16 ounces and I only offer shipping that is supported by Paypal so I don't have to mess with handwriting forms.

Melissafan, I sell under three screen names and ship all over the world. If you are leary on shipping overseas only offer Global Express mail service, which has $100 worth of insurance included and is trackable. If the buyer wants it bad enough they will pay the postage. I have shipped many an item where the postage amount was double if not triple the items price, and the buyer never batted an eyebrow.

Mike, post office isn't supposed to do a lot of stuff that it does. My office only has a hand scanner and adding machine, so you don't get much of a receipt. Every package that I drop off with electronic delivery confirmation is scanned, not required to be and most offices want do it, however my offices postage is up 40% from this time last year which is credited to my company shipping through them. I also see them take packages daily that are wrapped in brown paper, they were supposed to stop doing that over two years ago, regulations say so, but they still take them.

Stonecold, I think what is trying to be said is this. If someone does ship an item, say it costs $90 bucks and the buyer says they have not received it, that would be the one time that the labels do not get scanned and you are out in the cold. With a approved method like express mail, you never have to worry about that happening.
