I had to buy a new computer in the last 4 days. lost a lot of my links. i am looking for.

National list for telephone area codes and cities. So if i type in a code it will tell me what state and city. Or if i type in a state or city name, it will tell me the area code for the telephone. Thanks for any help.

Also the negative neutral feedback used on ebay to check up on their bad and good f/b. address.

If you are migrating from Windows XP to another XP setup you can easily take all your previous settings (links, history, cookies, etc) with you if you know what you're doing... Sames goes for Mac, Linux, etc.

I would however recommend that all Windows XP users install SP2 before connecting to the internet as the average time until infected is 16 minutes online. Also suggest you use FireFox as your browser - significantly better and fewer security issues compared to Explorer.

My new system is the latest windows xp. fully licensed. my old system was also a windows xp. but not a licensed one.

there is a new trap for new players in the latest version. you cannot use any programmes that are not licensed. so you cant borrow a copy from your friend down the road. if you put it in your new system and then go online it automatically checks home with microsoft. and if it is not licensed , they then disable your system. Im told they make quiet a mess. I was pre warned. and it was time for me to update all of my programmes. Cost me a lot of money but i now have a very fast system that does what i want . and then some.

For some reason, when the transfer of info from my old computer to the new one a lot of my links did not come across. Probably i did not how to do this correctly.

agit. i do use firefox, and your correct it is a better system then internet explorer. I have been using it for about 8 months now.

For about 3 years i have been running TREND MICRO as my internet security. That was put on before it was even connected to the web.

It is the 2006 latest version. And i would recommend it to all.

I do use google too for a lot of things. But i knew that a lot of people here also use the programmes that i wanted. and i got the exact 2 that i was after. So this saved me a lot of work. Thanks guys. All your input is appreciated .

Just 1 question. i have never heard of SP2. What is it.?

Service Pack 2. Later versions of XP should have it included in the install build. It fixes some of the security holes in XP. There are weekly and monthly bugs fixes to install also to keep on top of...

The safest way to run XP is to never, ever under any circumstances connect to the internet. Also to rebuild/reinstall the OS every six months. Usually security precautions.

"automatically checks home with microsoft. and if it is not licensed , they then disable your system."

This is only true if you have automatic update turned on. To use an old system not liscensed you can but you better not go update it the validation tool is run and if not valid then it disables it totally. It does not call home unless automatic update is turned on. UNLESS they added a new hidden thing to newer versions or something which I have not heard of. My brother in law is in business or PC repair and knows all about this stuff and he has not mentioned any new versions doing this. It came about last fall I believe to validate your XP.

I have just bought and had installed the latest version. My computer tech who is also a good friend warned me to get all the correct lic programmes to install or i would have these problems. I know nothing about the technical side of instillation in computers. But have complete trust in my friend. I suppose it is possible they have now got some hidden mechanism in the programming now.

I hope your right and they cant. But if my friend is right, you all better know about it. I suspect you will ask your brother in law first chance you get.

Thanks for the input.
