Was just reordering box's on the USPS website and saw they now have a new "Shoe Box" Priority mail box. I'm not sure if they have two different sizes or not. They have it listed two times in their shipping supplies section and one has the part number of O-SHOEBOX and the other is O-SHOEBOX-X so I just ordered 100 of each. Looks like their so new they don't even have the size of them listed. Looks like a box size I could use quite a bit and every free box I don't have to pay for is a +++++. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.
Here's the links to them in the USPS store.

Somehow I get the feeling there is only one "shoe box" but they were in a rush to get it posted on their site and goofed. It's the same picture for both listings. I guess I will find out in about 2 weeks when all my box's show up. I'm just happy they came out with another size box. The more the better.
On another USPS shipping supply note. I ordered 100 Global Priority Mail Tyvec envelopes. I don't remember ever seing them before either. Are they also new? Their the same size as the Priority Mail Tyvec envelopes but have Global Priority Mail printed on them and have the solid color background.

Thanks Mike, now if we could just get Priority tape again! They used to have a shoebox size (without the shoes on it) a few years ago and mine are long gone.

I have two cases of Priority Mail tape. It is still available. You just can't order it anymore. I just ask one of the counter reps at the local Post Office and their more than happy to give it to me.
From what the Postmaster told me. The reason they removed it from the online ordering system is that people were abusing it and using it to tape everything but Priority Mail packages. He said he has no problem giving it to me since he knows I will use it for sealing Priority Mail box's. I see them 6 day's a week with a truck full of Priority box's sealed with it so they know I'm using it for what it is ment for. You would be supprised what you can get if you just ask

Don't guess we have to put shoes in them LOL Anyway Mike the Global priority tyvek is not new I have gotten them before within last year or little over. I am anxious to get the new boxes and see what size they are, will definately stop my having to cut down the 12X12 and having to use filler for box on longer items but slim.
Thing I miss most is the priority tape rolls not available now. Got my clerk to give me a roll last week as they all like me there so tried what someone suggested in a past post and ask Postal worker for a roll. I love any thing free and especially tape.

This is a very small town; I know the postmaster personally. I spoke with her recently and told her it seemed a shame for the clerks to have to painstakingly apply that priority tape to everyone's boxes and was there any chance I could get a roll. She said no problem and gave me two; she said she knows I'm honest and am using the tape for what it's intended. I'm not spreading that word here in town, LOL, but for the rest of you--give it a try.
Our clerks don't even have those handy tape devices and have to pull the tape off the roll and cut it with scissors. Clogs up the line, I must say.

Mike: When you do receive those shoeboxes, will you please post the information here? Sizes, etc., and whether one is flat-rate, as Tom suggests may be possible.

roadsmith - Not a problem. I'm going to ask if they have any of the new box's at my local Post Office tomorrow when I make my daily run. However, I do not expect them to have them. I usually find out about new reg's and supplies weeks or month's before they do (don't know if I should laugh or shake my head on that note, LOL).

My local PO has these but shows them as a flat-rate option. Perhaps they are not as up-to-date as the web site. I like the size, so hope they will be usable for regular priority.

Thanks Mike - this size is great - between #4 and #7.
As for the tape, I asked at my PO and was told that I could order it on line - which of course I can't. This was a somewhat new clerk who didn't know me so I'll try again and ask my buddy who always handles my insurance questions.
I did find the same tape in brown at a close out store. I got two 12 inch roll for $5 each but I can't hardly pick up the roll it's so big. Guess that will keep me in tape for a few months.

ladyjewels where did you get the 12 inch rolls at? on internet possibly would love to get rolls that big but would need a special tape dispenser for that size roll. LOL at first reading I wondered why you would buy 12 inches of tape for $5.00 LOL Let us know where you got that tape if online.

Well, I stoped by the PO today and as I suspected they had no idea what I was talking about when I showed them the printout of the page from the USPS website about the box's. Here's the enlarged picture from the USPS website. I don't think it's a flat rate box since it does not have FLAT RATE printed on it anywhere. Like I said, I'll find out when they show up and post the details here.

Ref. the new #0 shoeboxes. Just phoned the post office. Those are Priority boxes not flat rate and measure 7 1/2" x 5 1/8" x 14 3/8". Good to know about them.

Thanks for the size info. That will be a handy size. Will save on buying so many of the 6x6 and 8x8 long tube boxs. I only wish they didn't plaster the sides with pictures of SHOES!!! What's up with that??? People are going to be thinking who's sending me shoes only to find out there are truck parts and tools in it.

Don't know about you but I just clicked on my link in my first post and it took me to the USPS website in a flash. I then signed into my USPS account with no problem.
Dumb question but have you tried clearing cookies, temp files and maybe a reboot yet? Might be worth a shot. Seems to fix most problems for me most of the time.

I have one question: What is the difference between the two boxes? Are they the same size or different?
I asked my favorite P.O. clerk today about the boxes and they haven't heard of them yet. I told him I'd order some for myself and some for the P.O., LOL. He was grateful.

roadsmith - Have not one clue what the difference is. I ordered 100 of each and I'll let you know when they show up if there is any difference at all.
As for getting supplies for the post office, don't feel bad. I think I took in over 3,000 box's to my local PO for this last Christmas season. They seem to have a hard time getting some size box's so I just order them for them. One reason I can get Priority tape so easy.

actually mikes - the USPS isn't allowed to order some of the boxes, or so my postman used to tell me. I always offered to order for them but they had "other" ways of getting them or so he said.
I couldn't believe it when he said that but then that's the goverment for you I figured.

Glassgrl...I ran into the same thing at the local P.O. a couple years ago. They can't order the boxes. The clerks order them and have them shipped to their homes. Then they bring them to the P.O. to distribute.
