I have boxes and I mean boxes of twine? string? hemp? cotton? of various thicknesses. I have no idea. Most of it is white and some is dark brown. What can I do with all of this? I know, sell it on ebay! (I can hear the jokes coming now.) How is it graded? Whick is the best kind for what purpose?

Depends how much you got. You could try to beat the Gunies Book of World Records for largest ball of string.

List it in the pet supply category. Hype it up to appeal to cat owners.

You could also list it in the sporting goods category as a do-it-yourself fish net kit.
Seriously, if Bizzycrocheting runs across this thread, she can probably point you in the right direction.

It's a shame that macrame is out right now. It was SO big in the 60s and 70s. YOu could peek at the crafts section, though, and see if anything's happening there. If people are still looking for the twine and yarn, perhaps you could sell some of this in a lot.

I have seen the best looking lawn chairs done in macrame. My wife use to do things in it and they were so neat looking. Man that was a long time ago.

Macrame is still going strong! New books have been published on the craft to make purses, plant hangers, etc. Also, crafters weave chairs in different designs with it, too. Try listing it in the craft supplies category. Does any of it have the wrappers still in place?

Bizzy, There are no wrappers. They are in bundles, HUGE bundles. Like someone wrapped it around a short forearm and gave it a few twists. I hope this makss sense. I'll try to post a foto this afternoon.

Paloma,
I am interested in that very product as I am planning to crochet rugs where I need twine or rough outdoor thread. Please let me know when you list the stuff. I am looking for the color similar to sisal.
But you can list them in groups if they are similar in size or color. When one of my clients gives me a box of stuff, I review the item on Ebay to see what would sell best, individually or in a group.

Mama,
Slightly off the original topic however I have been planning to crochet rugs using selvedge materials and I cannot find a crochet hook large enough.
Any ideas.
Sorry..don't mean to hi-jack the thread.

Penny, I use sizes N, P, Q & S depending on what I am using to crochet. I have found most of my hooks at garage sales or swapmeets.

I just got home from work and thought I'd check emails before taking fotos. I forgot one! I have a 1/2 done Hemp rug with all the rest of the hemp roping still attached.
Now, out to take pictures
Here is the rug in progress:

You should research marine supplies on ebay motors as well. There are lots of marine businesses that use all kinds of rope.

The white rope/twine looks like it could be used on boats for something??
The rug that was started looks wonderful..
Re: the Crochet hook, I could only find a 10mm and was told that was the largest made but today I found a 14mm at WalMart!
That should do the trick for what I have in mind.

Penny,
I have found the large size hooks at Jo-Ann Fabric and Wal-Mart. If you can't find it in the stores where you are at, you can order them online from Jo-Ann Fabrics. Also, try Herrschners.com. Herrschners carries EVERYTHING!

Paloma,
That man was pretty talented! I love the rug that is started. I would definitely show the unfinished pieces as well so that bidders can see what type of crafts the twine/rope can be used for.
