Saw this on another forum:

edited to add:
I just read through all the pages and here is what Amy from eBay last said:

Gang--
I spoke to someone in our legal group yesterday. I am hoping to have resolution within the next month...that said, the resolution could be that we aren't changing the policy or it could be that we allow certain subsets of teacher editions or it could be something else entirely. That said, the right folks are working on it, and I will keep you posted.
Thanks for your patience.
Amy

Huh?

This policy is unbelievable.

You gotta wonder why the sellers haven't just gotten together and decided to assign them a different term... like Parents Edition and then put the word out on home schooling boards and such what eBay has decided, why there has been a change and what the new "keyword" is.

Truly stupid of eBay! And a couple of years ago I sold a number of teacher's editions of elementary school books for homeschoolers. Bought them FROM homeschoolers, in fact.

I can perhaps see the policy if the teacher's editions had test answers in them--at the high school level, for example. And IF they were books currently in use. But not obsolete textbooks, or even 10-year-old textbooks.

Hmmm... sounds like over zealousness to me.

There are some materials that publishers send to teachers free of charge for review. (Particularly when a district is evaluating a new cirriculum.) Some publishers want it back, and others allow the teachers to keep it with the agreement that it won't be resold. Rather like Advanced Reading Copies.

Usually they have "Teacher's Review Copy" stamped on them or written on big red and white labels.

Most likely that is the reason for the policy.

Sounds like a competitor wanted to sell her Teacher's Edition that week, and knew eBay's own "reviewer" wouldn't know the difference.

It never ceases to amaze what eBay cancels and what it allows to run.

I remember selling some Teacher's Editions a few years ago that were Secondary Education sets. Now I need to buy some because I am in the process of getting my Elementary Education degree.

What a bummer because I was just thinking of starting my resource library collection for when I finally get my certification. Some teachers don't have much in the way of resources or reference materials when they first start out so I wanted to start early and have mine built up before I get into a classroom. Ebay was going to be my main source. I'm glad I saw this thread. At least I can still get other classroom materials off of Ebay.

Meow: I'd keep looking on eBay anyway on the chance that some of those books slip through the censors. Also, you could e-mail the sellers of students' editions and ask if they have the teacher's edition.

And don't forget Amazon and some of the good book sites, like AddAll.

The teachers' editions I sold were purchased for practically nothing at two thrift stores here and a yard sale.
