Now that's stupid.
I sold a chair one time and didn't realize that one of the the photos of the chair seat had a nice fuzzy pink bedroom slipper in it.

Now it makes me wonder if it is safe to sell for others, how do we know where their goods come from??
That antique Rolex watch, that genuine Tiffany studio lamp, that 18th century Meissen figurine may not be great aunt's estate??
And how safe is it to bid on some of these expensive items on Ebay, what if it were stolen goods, does the bidder lose the goods as well as the money if police cannot recover the money??

Couldn't the police subpeona his records from eBay?

What if eBay kept the buyers information confidential?

Dont know about the police, but IRS can ask for seller activities on Ebay.
One antique dealer who has a brick and mortar store was audited by IRS,ebay sales is a small part, but IRS wanted it anyway.

Ebay never misses a PR chance to proclaim their willingness to provide any information they have to any law nforcement agency as part of an investigation. In most instances, they don't require a subpoena or a search warrant. As a user, you gave them permission to divulge this information at the time you registered with them.

A few years ago I was selling a taxidermy Woodpecker. I had bought this woodpecker 10yrs prior and it was a very very old woodpecker, the person I bought it from did not have any papers on it from the person who did the taxidermy. It was displayed in my Shop for years and then I decided to sell it on ebay. I paid 2500.00 for everything in the house and this came with the purchase.

Not knowing much about it I listed it for 9.99 and it was going up real fast the first day and had lots of bids. On the second day Ebay ended the auction telling me it was against Ebays selling rules which I didn't understand because there was lots of taxidermy animals up for auction.

Well, on the 3rd day at 7:30am my door bell rang and two men were there asking me if I had the woodpecker in my house that was listed on Ebay. Before I could answer they said they were here to take the pecker away from me because I was selling a very rare woodpecker that is on the endangered species list.
So I told them just wait here I'll be right back, they went crazy when I said that........they said If I don't give them the pecker they will arrest me on the spot..........I said, just hold on a min. I need to get dressed........lol I'm not leaving town with the pecker.
To make a long story short they took the pecker and handed me a paper saying they took it. They were from the Department of the Interior U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Division of Law Enforcement.
They said they monitor Ebay and saw that I didn't know what I was selling so no charges were going to be made. But they also said the people that bid on the pecker could have lots of problems if they wanted to pursue this matter further.
According to these guys it is against the law to even own this pecker.

The woodpecker is called a Northern Flicker
which I didn't know at the time of listing,

I just mention this so you can see how you can get into trouble without realizing it.

He thinks they be "Kewl Kats" while I try to convince him that they be just a bunch of...pussies!

Tonimar1...Sounds like you were in the same predicament as Hilliary Clinton. When Bill was Pres. She held some type of ceremony in DC honoring an American Indian tribe. The tribal chief presented her with a dreamcatcher. Problem was, there was an Eagle feather in it. She couldn't legally keep it, or even leave the room with it. They had to call someone from the Dept. of Interior to come over and get it, and put it on display in the Secretary of Interior's office where it probably still resides.

Tonimar1...They may have an exhibit of their own about endangered species where they will display it, or they could donate it to a museum and issue a special permit to the museum for them to have it.

Thanks Sparkz, that makes sense

I never thought to ask them where they were taking it.
I was just glad for it to be leaving after finding out how much trouble I could have been in.

Tom...Actually what probably happened was when they got back to D.C., they had someone in the office create a sellers account and list it. When they received the big bucks for payment and shipped the pecker, the same two guys showed up at the buyers house about 5 minutes after the mailman delivered it. They whipped out their badges, terrorized the buyer by threatening to arrest him, seized the pecker and brought it back to the office. They repeated the same scenario 15 times, and one morning the Washington Post headlines read "Bureau Balances Budget With Their Pecker".
