I did it I took the plung and opened an ebay store. Probably the wrong time of year to do it but this is the only time I have to do it.
1. What are RSS Feeds and do I REALLY need it? Do I need: Distribute my listings via RSS.
2. There's another section for: Search engines and comparison sites - Export my listings to third-party search engines and product comparison sites- Make a file of your Store inventory listings available.
In my opinion It's none of anyone's business. They want my data so they can add it to others and then sell it? If they are going to use my data, I think I should be able to use their comparision data for free. That is, unless I am missing something
3. Cross-Promotion: ConnectionsL is this used to promote with another seller? if so, I wouldn't mind doing that with someone here. That is, if that is what it really is.
4. There is something about leaving crumbs. I can't find it right now but it sounded strange

RSS feeds allow you to send data to froogle, googlebase, you own website, etc. It's a good thing if you have the time to mess with it. The more search engines that bring customers to our listings, the better IMO. Cross-Promotions - if you opt in and don't specify which sellers to cross-promote, your competitors listings will show on your closed listings (you won't be able to see them unless you sign out first). For a while, even if you opted out, your competitor's items were still cross-promoted unless you chose a seller to cross-promote with. Don't know if that is still the case since I chose Neglus to cross-promote with PRONTO.

The reference to "crumbs" is about showing the path in your store (in tiny blue letters) above your description. Here's an example of one of my crumbs:
Moody Mommy's Marvelous Postcards > US VIEW-CLICK TO EXPAND LIST > CALIFORNIA -CLICK TO EXPAND > OTHER
The buyer can click on the any one of the points in the crumb and see the relevant listings.
That is if the buyers KNOW they can do this! I don't see any harm in leaving crumbs. LOL
You WANT RSS feeds, search engine feeds etc - not an invasion of privacy at all but a way of getting your items on search engines.
You also should use as many keywords as possible in your store header/description of your store as the Search Engines pick up relevant keywords starting at the top of your listings.
If you are going to spend time on your store, it is better spent on SEO (search engine optimization) than on design. And STOCK IT! before spending a lot of time on design. I've seen many a new store owner spend hours and hours on the ebay store board asking this and that about their store design and THEY DON'T HAVE ANYTHING LISTED! Needless to say, they don't last long.
There are many helpful threads posted to the top of the ebay store board you might want to take a look at. And don't forget- store items do not, generally, appear in a regular search so you have to run auctions to draw people to your store. You should have links to your store prominently placed in your auction listings.

neglus, I saw that "crumbs" thing only once and couldn't find it again. where is it? just curious for now. I am taking your advise and putting as much stuff as I can into the store. I will worry about the rest of the store set up later.
