I have a prescription with segment power +2.25,but I am thinking of getting a new pair of glasses without this add on.
Would that affect my vision??

Well...yer showing yer age...
You won't be able to read with yer glasses on. If yer myopic ("nearsighted), you can take off yer glasses to read (depending on the amount of myopia & yer age).
If yer hyperopic ("farsighted), yer not gonna be reading much of anything without the "add" -- gotta get either the bifocals or two pairs of glasses...
I should "add" (pun intended) that the above is overly simplified -- I can tell you more if you list yer COMPLETE Rx...

Thanks,Tom.
I am nearsighted and have a bad case of stigmatism, but these days I can go about my business without my lenses around the house and walking to the mailbox!
I have heard of short sighted people who gain normal vision,is that in the cards for me??

Hey, Tom! While we have your attention--I've been trying to avoid bifocals for ages. My husband has had the continuous vision ones (or whatever they're called) for at least 10 years and likes them. I'm okay with distance vision, but I need glasses to read, and so far I've just had reading glasses prescribed--which I also use at the computer.
What do you know about that laser surgery? Would that correct both close and far vision (which I guess I'll need correction for, eventually)?
First, it's important to understand HOW Laser Surgery works:
MYOPIA (a "bad" word for myopia is: nearsightedness): the eyeball is TOO LONG or, another way to think of it: the eyeball is: TOO STRONG -- has too much CONVEX POWER, usually because the cornea to "too" steep.
THUS, in laser surgery, microns are shaved off the cornea (the front, clear window of the eye), effectively reducing the LENGTH & thus the POWER of the eye = LESS MYOPIA!
So, for "young" myopics (20-40), laser surgery is GREAT as they can throw away their distance glasses. Plus, since they are "young," they can accomodate (change the focus for near obkjects of their internal human crystalline lens) and thus ALSO read without problems...
HOWEVER...
In order to READ (see anything at close range), EVERYBODY has to be able to ACCOMODATE -- IOW: everybody has to be able to change the shape of the human lens inside their eyeballs. This lens (the human crystalline lens) is basically only used for NEAR!
UNFORTUNATELY...
As we age, the ability to accomodate goes down the tubes -- this process is cally: PRESBYOPIA and is a normal part of ageing...
Well, I'm myopic and 57, and when I read, all I do is take off my glasses in order to see up close!
But what if I had had laser surgery to correct my myopis at age 30????
GUESS WHAT? I now have to wear reading glasses in order to see ANYTHING up close!
So, you basically end up trading one pair of glasses for another!
As you've probably guessed, I'm not a fan of MYOPIC laser surgery for MYOPES who are approaching or are in PRESBYOPIA (40-50 yos) and totally don't understand the logic behind laser surgery for any HYPEROPES...
ROADY: to answer yer question:
NO -- laser surgery is NO help for you...
NO -- PAL (progressive addition lenses) no-seeum bifocals work easiest for folks who are blind when they take off their glasses! Yer Rx would be an expensive &, I feel, disappointing chalenge...
(again: everything above is OVERLY SIMPLIFIED -- things are MUCH more complicated than that brief summary above -- FOR all reliable info, consult yer EYE HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONER)

Tom...I noticed that after a couple glasses of two buck chuck, I see double and feel single. Should I see an eye doctor, or is it hopeless?
