I have a lamp I got at a thrift shop that's really wonderful--carved wooden Indian maiden, tall, heavy wood, colorful. I'm going to keep it. The switch that turns the light on and off is hard to work. It's the kind you turn clockwise, not the kind you push in and out.

What can I use to loosen it up, if anything? WD40? Or?

Also Off Track--we got RAIN TODAY! Finally, after 4 days of humid warm weather. Very refreshing up here in the mountains.

There's probably corrosion to the copper contacts inside the switch. Just replace it with a new one. While you're doing that, examine the insulation and condition of the electrical wiring. It may need to be replaced also. The whole job shouldn't cost more than a couple bucks, and you won't have to worry about shorts, sparks, fires and popped circuit breakers.

We've had a couple close encounters with rain this week. Unfortunately it was only virga and did nothing more than raise the humidity. Radar showed rain clouds directly overhead, but it's been so hot here that it evaporated before it hit the ground. We're still better off than they are in the East, though. They barely dodged a tropical storm this week, and there are two other systems out there tuning up to become Beryl and raise a little havoc.

If Murphy's law is correct, everything East of the San Andreas Fault will slide into the Atlantic

When I sell lighting, vintage or otherwise, I always always emphasize the importance of having wiring checked. I can't stress it enough -- hard to tell where it's been, if there are loose wires or connections, etc. etc. Don't take a chance on it -- get someone to change the socket for you and preferably the cord and plug. It's just cheap insurance.

ps. wanna know how to make it rain? leave your car windows down overnight. worked like a charm for me.

we haven't had rain for months. night before last we had lightning during the night...enough so that my scared Yorkie woke me up - but no rain.

yesterday I drove the car without the rain/wind shields over the windows....you know what I mean? and because it's been so hot I left the windows half open. before my DH went to bed I specifically asked "is it going to rain because I left the car windows open" and he (being glued to the weather channel) said "no".

woke up and found we'd had a goodly amount of rain overnight.
