I can't find that other thread where we were talking about the stolen VA Laptop and identy theft but they found the laptop and here is link to story eweek story on VA recovery
Here is part of the story

The United States Department of Veterans Affairs is reporting that it has recovered the stolen laptop computer believed to be carrying the personal records of 26.5 million former and current servicemen that touched off a firestorm of debate over the government's data handling policies.

ADVERTISEMENT A Veterans Affair spokesman confirmed to eWEEK on June 29 that the agency had somehow gotten its hands back on the stolen machine and an external hard drive that was also taken, while not offering any details as to how the devices were returned. Veterans Affairs Secretary Jim Nicholson also confirmed the recovery to reporters in Washington.

"The department and the secretary are encouraged by this development, and it is certainly good news for veterans," the VA spokesman said. "The secretary is still committed to moving the VA forward and putting policies and procedures in place to ensure that this doesn't happen again."

The government had been offering a $50,000 reward for the laptop's return, but the spokesman could not confirm if the sum would be paid out as a result of the laptop recovery.

The situation

They probably bought it on Ebay. Imagine the look on the seller's face when he finds out that he sold a laptop for $300.00, when he could have got $50,000 for it, and not had to pay a FVF.

Ok - so why doesn't Vendio provide a search on forums? Even eBay gives us that!

That is what I would like to know Pixiamom we need a search for all those past post that are so helpful.

Jack I kinda was wondering same thing how and where did they find it... Hope the news jumps on it and gives more details. IF they did get it back then they probably paid the crook the reward money when he should have been fried instead.
I'll take mine over easy please.

Vendio used to have a search function. It became a drain on their servers and they discontinued it. Someone located it on an archived page, and it still worked. We used it on the sly for a couple years until a few posters were too quick to publish the link in a thread for anyone who wanted it. Apparently a moderator visited one of the threads and saw the link. They disabled the "hidden" search function. I suppose they have it in mothballs somewhere, but they have not seen fit to bring it back.
