Have posted this on several discussion boards to no avail, and since I know there are lots of gentlemen of later vintage on this board, perhaps someone can help date this football uniform on 8x10 B&W glossy. All is know is that it's earlier than my son's 70s duds.

For sure no newer then the 40's. The clue is the pants. In the 50's, there pants where much like the version used today. Judging by the shoes, plus hair style, I would say late 30's or early 40's.

Thanks Stone! Even though I meant to say "earlier" rather than "later" in my post (fixed) I hoped the pants, shoes and shirt would help since there was no helmet. And why is there no helmet anyway?

I think stone has hit the nail on the head. That's my best guess, too. 20s - 40s. They didn't all wear helmets earlier. Imagine the injuries!

This photo was taken as a "portrait" and not as if he were heading onto the field -- that's why he's not wearing a helmet.
As to why it's not sitting next to his foot, I can't say.
The clue to the "portrait" is that it appears that he's wearing a ring on "his" left hand - probably a college ring as it looks like he's proudly showing it off.
You might want to try to get a better "head-on" angle for this photo if you plan to list it so that the perspective is correct and not angled the way it is now. Might make for a better presentation.

Thanks all -- taking him to a show this time, and needed date to help price him. Sports photos look weak on eBay at the mo', besides all of which he has a flake out of his hand (that's the ring).
