I purchased some books a couple of weeks back that I thought were hardcover. The item specifics said hardcover. They arrived today and are softcover. I can purchase the softcover copies locally at the thrift for 10 cents a piece so it's really quite worthless to me.

I wrote to the seller to ask for a refund. He replied that he had s/c in the title so even though the item specifics was wrong he did "disclose" that they were softcover. Also he said his return policy is "No Refunds More Then 12 Days After Payment".

Well these did come media mail to Alaska for goodness sakes...and I did email him the same day I received them.

Bottom line he's offered me a $2.00 refund....whippy ding.

Being the nice person I am I counter offered and said he could refund $5.00 which should cover his postage, listing and paypal fees. Then he could file for his FVF with a mutual agreement.

Should he reply in the negative I was thinking my next route would be a SNAD. It's not a lot of money but it's the principle of the thing.

Would you do a SNAD, Paypal dispute or just take the $2.00 and run?

Oh poop!

I feel terrible, but Ralphie insists that the WRITTEN stuff ("S/C) in the TITLE trumps that stupid old item specifics any ole day.

Of course you may file a SNAD complaint -- can't hurt, right?

Personally, now that my FB is over 2000 with only 2 negs, this is one of those times I'd dump AT LEAST a NEUT on his head...if not a NEG for being such an inflexible pretzel-choker...

good luck!

If you file an SNAD, you'll have to ship them back to him at your own expense. Might not be worth it.

Well he went for my $5.00 offer. If I had mailed the books back I would have come out just a bit ahead of $5.00 but not much so I guess I'll be satisfied with what I got.

He's still complaining that it took me so long to get them....as he says...almost two months...well no...actually 17 days which is actually pretty good coming to Alaska.

Thank you both for responding as I was on the verge of a tantrum. I decided upon a nap instead

I filed a SNAD 2 weeks ago. Received my money back but still have not heard from the seller so I am debating leaving her a neg for just plain poor service. I have not returned her merchandise and will not until I hear from her. She knows she screwed up and does it on a regular basis.

She sells used items as new. I checked her past auctions after I received my item and everything she sells she lists as new. Her photos totally stink and often she stated new in the title and item specific but used worlds "like new" in her description.

As for your seller, I would have been PO'd as well. I disagree with Ralphie. S/C is not a sufficient enough description to negate an item specific. Many people would not know what S/C meant. Could mean squeaky clean or sneaky cookie. The guy is obviously a jerk. Sorry you had to deal with him.

I filed a SNAD for a caller ID I bought on eBay because the seller didn't disclose anywhere that the red plastic piece covering the light was cracked, broken in two pieces & scotch taped together.

I lost the dispute.

Tom & Ralphie are probably right.

I'm glad it worked out for you.

I still have the broken caller ID, but at least it does work.
