I am also sick of the search function. For no apparent reason, all of a sudden the little search box just disappears from the top corner. This happens all the time!!! At the same time "my Ebay" also becomes a mess. I just want to scream at times!!!

Okay, time for a bit of explanation.

At some point in the not-too-distant past, software engineers apparently noticed two things:

1) There is a finite number of search terms (keywords) being used, and

2) People often make typos, thus ending up with irrelevant search results.

eBay actually *wants* you to find relevant search results, so they went to a smart search where if you enter a gobbledygook word, the search engine tries to convert it to a word it understands.

It can do that because,as a result of 1), the search engine has a list of keywords based on past searches.

I think you may have committed a typo when you entered "Castrol" because Castrol is definitely a keyword.

I have noticed when I type a search in the top right hand box, I get pretty accurate search results. If I type in the box above the listings, not so much, even if I type in the exact same keywords!!Some times I have done this to narrow my search and it really does narrow it, sometimes down to none, even though teh prior search from the top box gave me the results I was looking for, plus many more I wasn't. Go figure!!

Thanks for the info Fluff. Castrol is the word I needed to use. It is a model car that I was searching for. I know that's the name, I am looking at the box right now. You should have the option to search for what you actually spelled.

Hey ! Fluffy! What is this new tag line you are using? Are you going to be on eauctionair soon? Is that your new gig? What's going on? Fill me in here or email me
