I have a problem with outlook express. when an email comes in part of the message is missing. it does not seem to matter who it comes from or where it comes from. Sometimes i lose the first 1 to 4 lines of a message. Not all messages, seems to be random.
i have check my computer fairly well. as much as i can anyway. i have checked the isp servers. no problems. no viruses or anything like that. not my firewalls. checked my spam blockers. everything seems to be in order.
it is XP 2002 PROFESSIONAL service pack 2.
my system is about 7 months old. and a very good quality system.
Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it. any help appreciated.
Microsoft want to charge an outrageous amount of money to try to fix it.

Why don't you try another email client -- such as Thunderbird (from the same folks who do Mozilla) which is free and which will import all your settings from OE and which will feel very familiar. Eudora is another email program which I've used and which also works well.
I've never been fond of Outlook Express, but then I've never heard of lines missing. How long has this been going on? Perhaps you can roll back your system to an earlier point (system tools under accessories in your start, all programs, restore system).
Just a thought.

I found thunderbird to be worse then outlook express. i have not heard of eudora. but i will be looking into it shortly. I have tried to rollback the system but that did not work either. thanks for your input.

What happens if you use your ISPs web site for your mail -- most have it these days. Do you still have truncated lines? And when you say Thunderbird is worse, do you get the same thing there?

Hi
Do you think that since your system is only 7 months old you are still under warranty?
Because if you are just call and they might be able to give you advice as to what needs to be
checked.

When i last tried to use thunderbird it had all sorts of problems. would not save emails properly could not send out emails. no i never had that problem there. but i never got to use the programme properly. Not for the lack of trying. I am trying to avoid using isp website mail. having to go to another site and log in.
Warranties dont cover software problems, and yes i did try that too. I may have to give in and pay microsoft to find the problem. it does annoy me to do this . i dont like paying these people to fix a programe that does not work properly because it is faulty

Sounds to me like your email settings are incorrect -- especially if Thunderbird behaved like you describe. What happens if you hit reply to one of the messages where the lines are missing? Can you see them all then?
I would call my ISP and have them walk me through every setting on OE on all the tabs.

This site 'Inside Outlook Express' addresses errors, problems and bugs. Maybe you can find help there.

"Get an Apple and use their OSX Mail program!"
Why spend $$ on an Apple, if you already have a PC its much easier to go Linux. Its not as hard as everyone thinks and the gui is very nice.

Tony,
Hey, either way it's not Microsoft... so it's gotta be better! I'm not at all opposed to Linux... just love my Mac!
I guess I just don't understand why people complain about Microsoft products so much, yet continue to stick with them. They make inferior products, charge big money for them, have poor customer service (which as Agate has just found out is pricy too!), and delay technological advances. Yet the masses stay with them... oh, well... at least both Linux and Apple market share has been increasing lately (which means Windows share has been decreasing). Maybe there's still hope!

Try a system restore. If that does not fix it then who knows. There is another free email program called Incredimail that is fairly easy to use and set up.

Check it out

eauctionmgnt,
I'll get around to trying out Mac and OSX someday. Probably would have already if I could afford it. I tried out an Imac years ago and didn't like it. Unfortunately I still have to use windows for some things, but I mostly use Kubunto Linux. I think Microsoft should stick to making video games, at least they can get that right.
