Hey don't knock it until you try it, just might work.

Acupressure

To ease the throbbing toothache pain, press point LI 4 on the hand that’s on the same side as your toothache, says Michael Reed Gach, Ph.D., director of the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, California, and author of Acupressure’s Potent Points. LI 4 is located in the webbing between your thumb and index finger, close to the bone at the base of the index finger. The point is on the large intestine meridian, which is a traditional acupressure pathway for relieving toothaches, according to Dr. Gach. He explains that the meridian flows from the hands and up the arms until it reaches the teeth and gums.

To press point LI 4, says Dr. Gach, hold it with your thumb on top of the webbing and your index finger underneath, then squeeze into the webbing, angling the pressure toward the bone that connects the index finger to the hand. He suggests holding the point for one minute as needed to relieve pain.

It works. I've done it before. But, I don't think it would work with the acute pain Tom was/is suffering with.

Gotta agree with you Cheryl.

Was thinking it might give a little relief from unbearable almost bearable.
He's suffering so much & I'm grabbing at straws just looking for anything that might help.

Such a sweet looking dog, why do we have to lose them so soon.
More unbearable pain, huh.

Sorry for your doggy loss Cheryl.

That pressure point is also good for headaches so I have been told. or it is in that area of the webbing.

I'm a basket case over Summer. Somehow you feel like you let them down by having them put to sleep. Deep down you know you didn't, but the guilt is still there. Just when you think you can't cry anymore. . . Yes, she was 11 and that's getting up there for a lab. It's like losing one of my children. To happen the day after Christmas makes it even worse.

Tom, glad to see you back. Please keep us informed.

Cheryl, I didn't realize you just lost Summer.

"Somehow you feel like you let them down by having them put to sleep. Deep down you know you didn't, but the guilt is still there"

No matter what we do we feel guilt & either way it is never easy. They are family & we love them equally & suffer so much when they leave.

I feel so bad for you, Cheryl, I am so sorry.

Jane

Cheryl, my condolences for your loss. I don't care to remember how many beloved pets I've put down. Out here, it's usually me who does it, as the vet is a long ways away. It never gets any easier and it's always the right thing to do. The best way we can return their unconditional love for us is to know when it's time to end their suffering, and be willing to do it. God bless.

Thanks, all! She was having such trouble lately with her back legs. Labs are known for getting hip displasia. She also had arthritis in her back legs. Lately, she was throwing up bile and having trouble breathing. There were good days, though, where you'd never know anything was wrong. It's just hard knowing it was on one of those good days that she got put to sleep. The vet said the expense to find out everything that was wrong would be extremely high and that even if they did find out what was wrong, at her age there probably would not have been much they could do. It would have been numerous trips to the vet and Summer would have been miserable. Bringing her home would have just delayed the inevitable.

It's going to take a long time for this hurt to heal!

Cheryl - someone posted this in response on the Yorkie Chat list I'm on. I thought she said it beautifully. I know she won't mind me passing it on.

"Barb,
Know that we are all hugging you with our hearts and sharing your sorrow.
Your heart is breaking and you're probably wondering if it was the right thing
to do, why does it feel so terrible? ... but it you did do the right thing, as
awful as it was. When we love our pets as you loved Mercy, through the years
we sometimes wonder how we came to be so blessed, to have such sweet
creatures love us so much, so unconditionally, without asking for anything in
return. But the "price" of that wonderful love does come one day and it is the
sorrow we feel when we let them go. It is the gift we give them to free them from
pain and infirmity. It is the saying goodbye that we never ever wanted to
say. We can never be ready for it or for the empty place that is left in our
hearts. Time will ease the sorrow and wonderful memories and moments will fill
part of the void. Mercy may be gone but she will live on forever in your
heart and you will carry that love with you all the days of your life. All pets
die someday, but it is the ones we free that seem to hurt the most. It is a
huge act of love, to take on the pain of mourning so our little loved ones
don't suffer too much. All the while, we want them to stay forever even as we
know we have to let them go. You gave Mercy a wonderful last gift and the tears
you shed are part of that gift... proof that you did this for her, not for
you, that she came first. You gave her a final gift of love and she carried
that with her as she crossed over the bridge. Take care, and remember, she will
always be part of you, part of your heart and soul, part of who you are.
Hugs,
Marcia"
