This morning my husband pulled a dog bone out of the bag for our Lacy. This is what it looks like!

Now I know it does not look like the Virgin Mary and I think it is a stretch to say it looks like Jesus. The closest profile I see is the Old Man of the Mountain (which broke off in 2003). There would likely not be enough New Hampshire bidders nostalgic for a memento of the absent profile so guess if that is the best I can come up with it would not be worth listing.

Help me decide. Do I list it or feed it to the dog?

I'd list it right now! If people can sell snow for money I'd think a dg bone that looks like a face sould go over real well!

But what should I call it?

I'd call it Mother Theresa or Ghandi.... Right? That's close....

Seriously, do your research on what old person's name is searched on the most on eBay and use that info to guide your listing.

I would say that you should prepare to write a lot about it - make it up if necessary (of course it would be necessary!) and tell a story about it.

Just listing it as "Face of Mother Theresa Dog Bisquit" won't get you the money it deserves. Make sure you mention that after you placed it in front of your dog (by name), he/she seemed calmer and more a peace with her existence, etc. All day long, he/she wanted to see "her" again - almost as if she wanted to give it a "kiss..."

You know what I mean? You can have fun with it and then see what happens, just be sure to use some research to be sure you include some of the hottest keywords as you're describing it and its impact on your family - and especially the 4-legged part of the family.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I searched on eBay for "Mother Theresa" and "Jay Leno" and found 198 for Mother Theresa and 895 for Jay Leno. I am a bit queasy about listing it with a religious tie in. No way does George Bush have that strong a chin but don't get me started on him.

FamilyBiz I actually have a truthful 4 legged child story I can tell. We give her six dog bones every morning after breakfast and she scarrfs them down right away. This morning the "face bone" was the third one my husband pulled out of the bag. He held it up to her and said "Should I give her this one?" She looked at it and backed up. I tried to give her one of the regular bones and she dropped it and walked away. We could not get her to eat any more of them. I can say that this dog never refuses a dog treat.

Keep the suggestions coming. I think I want to keep it light.

I would go for Jay Leno and do it as a charity auction to bring in some BIG $$$. This is the kind of thing Golden Palace loves, but they only buy charity auctions.

Please let us know when you list it. If you go over the top with your description and really make it entertaining, you could have a winner.

Sure you can bid. I am working on the description. Maybe this is the nudge I needed to get back into listing. I have been saying I would but doing nothing about it.

Dejapooh -- Golden Palace doesn't restrict themselves to charity listings - not the ones I've seen them purchase. Remember, they purchased the Grilled Cheese Madonna and have advertised their Web site on pregnant bellies...

Now, some of those folks looked like "Charity Cases," but I don't think the money went to help anyone other than themselves.

Now, that's not a bad idea though... donate 10% of the proceeds to a popular "eBay approved" charity through GivingWorks - benevolence that benefits capitalism rather than the other way around... I think I like it!

I also like the true story about how it affected the pup as well. Now, make it creative and let's see it here, too.

What's your thought on putting the story together - sharing it here to gauge reaction - then launching?

Can't say that I'm completely in favor of the Jay Leno thing... he does own the rights to his name and likeness and it could get yanked... unless you actively shop the story over to the Tonight Show immediately after it's launched and play up the charity angle...

I'd still do something with Mother Teresa or Ghandi -- and the "mystery" reaction the family canine had to it.

Also, if you run an auction like this, please be prepared to answer questions and keep the dialog going on the auction as people tell you that it's been mentioned in different locations.

All this could be fun... Especially if there are a few slow news cycles during the auction...

Hey - I just re-read your doggie story... Maybe it has had a "dietary" effect on your pooch... It could be the cure for overweight canines....

And, if you can't see the religious tie in, then you don't want to make the money it could. But that's okay. It's your bone.

Turn it sideways and call it that mountain range named for a sleeping Indian? Can't remember name of it but reminds me of that.
Here islink to some rock head figures , but now that I see them I think it is more like New Hampshire's "Old Man of the Mountain" which you can say fell off into your doggy bone box. Just an idea but Leno would probably bring more views and possible bids and maybe an air date on Leno. LOL

I am working on the "story" including all the great suggestions from eBay Outlookers. In the mean time where should I list? Is there an optimum category for this kind of thing? Is Everything Else/Weird the best spot? Also should I go for 10 days to give it more time to build a buzz?

I think I will use the Leno name in addition to all the suggestions I have had here and from my family. I hate to be a wimp but if I get shut down by verio will it impact my good standing if it is the first time? I have 100% feedback and I guess I am over sensitive about keeping it.

Thanks again for your continued help.

I really would like to have your suggestions on the eBay section that would be best for this.

I am going to go with a % to the ASPCA. Seems only right when I am selling a dog bone.

Thanks for your help with picking the best category.

Yes I think Everything Else > Weird Stuff > Really Weird would be a good category for it.
