Well, I think that the antibiotic is finally kicking in and working. I'm still coughing alot, but not as much nor bad as I was. I still have the aches but Tylenol is helping that. Anyway ...
Last night my little girl fell out of a tree. I really didn't think she hurt herself too bad. She complained of her leg hurting, but there was absolutely no swelling or bruising, so I figured that it wasn't anything serious. She couldn't stand on it but wasn't in pain as long as she stayed off of it. I should have known better. The child has a high tolerance for pain.
This morning she still couldn't stand on it, so I took her to the ER. She fractured it! She's in a soft cast now, but needs a hard one put on. Unfortunately, where I live, it's difficult to find someone who takes her insurance (medicaid) and the hospital doesn't put casts on. I'm working on a referral with her pediatricians to try to find someone to get a hard cast put on within the next couple of days.
Jeez ... Talk about starting off the New Year on the wrong foot (pun intended)!

My sympathies. It's so hard when things happen to your children. Years ago our daughter, age about 5, fell out of a gym set we had and broke a collar bone. Our family doctor sort of set it in place and gave her a sling (he said you don't have casts for such a break). I noticed his hands were shaking badly when he did the bandaging and sling. At home, our daughter complained about pain, and I ignored it for a day. Then, looking more closely, I could see that the dr. wound things too tightly and it was really truly painful for her. (Learned later that he was an alcoholic.) We got that taken care of, but I felt guilty about it for years. Thinking even now about it, I get a little twinge.
Good luck with the insurance!

My youngest broke his leg when he was 3. He was under his sister's bed with his leg between the bed slat and the mattress. His sister didn't know he was under there and ran into her room and jumped on her bed.
I wasn't home...my husband (now ex-husband) was. He made the poor baby wait about 3 hours for me to come home and take him to the doctor.
He broke the same leg 14 years later when he got hit by a car when he was on his bike. (the driver's fault...running a red)
My father called me from the emergency room and left a message on my cell phone....."We're at the hospital. Jake got hit by a car but it's just his leg". So I'm driving to the hospital thinking...just his leg...as in what?..is it still there...? Thanks Dad...

I was able to get the appt with an orthopedic for Tuesday. It looks like she's going to have a hard cast, but I'm hoping for a split. Unfortunately, Tuesday is also her birthday. Nice birthday present, huh? She'd doing well though and adjusting, but I know it's going to be tough watching the other kids run and play and she can't. My daughter is hyper (she has ADHD) and she loves being outside. This is going to be tough. Fortunately, her friends come over and keep her occupied.
Roady ... I definitely can commiserate. She had a bad itch and was in tears over it. I unwrapped her leg so that she could scratch it. Well, when I rewrapped it, it must have been too tight and was hurting her really bad. I rewrapped it and she was fine. I'm still beating myself up over not taking her to the ER Thursday night. I really thought she sprained it because there was no swelling or bruising.
Ewora ... I can't even imagine how much pain he must have been in! I keep picturing the accident when he was 3 and I get a sick feeling in my stomach. The poor little guy! I'm glad to hear he healed well after 2 breaks!

Actually after they get the hard cast on she'll be back up and running around in about a week. It slows them down a little but not much.
