I've been using DSI for the last 6 months. I can't comment on how good they are, as I haven't had a claim yet. I do know that they're much cheaper that USPS.

We've used DSI (Discount Shipping Insurance) for about 2 years or more now. Have had one claim, which was processed quickly - and we were able to communicate via e-mail or phone - and sent the signed doc for the claim via a scanned .pdf attached to the claim in their pretty slick system.
We only insure things that are more money than we want to lose - and we pay $0.45 per $100.00 domestic and I believe $0.90 per hundred for international.
Using Endicia, we indicate if we insure when printing the shipping label and export the monthly activity and send to DSI after the first of the month. They e-mail a bill a little more than a week later and we pay via PayPal (so I guess we pay a little less since we still get 1.5% back from PayPal.
Hope this helps.

I insure everything that I sell with DSI. I pay a flat monthly fee that comes out to about half of what USPS insurance costs.

I agree with Familybiz - you should only insure items you cannot tolerate the loss of. The odds of loss vs cost for reimbursement are ALWAYS in the insurance company's favor. Try covering your low dollar shipments with a speedy refund and only buy insurance for your high-end items, you'll save a ton!
