Ok,all you wise sellers out there, what's all these mystery box auctions?
sellers dumping stuff they cant sell?
One seller said when my wife left me,she left behind -a 10k gold ring,an engagement ring and a ruby ring.
Final bid -26 dollars!
Should we all try 'mystery box auction'??

About 8 yrs ago i started this with selling mystery parcels of opal rough. I would only tell them that it was Queensland opal rough. And how much weight there was. usually about 1 kilo a parcel. I would put a price on them and let the rest happen. Always told them the price of shipping. Most of them went for 20% to 80% above the list price. occasionally sold at start price. sometimes up to 8 times start price.

The trick is not to tell them too much. Give them a very rough idea of what is in the box. Example, jewellery. genuine. Or fake jewellery . NO photos of the articles. If the write wanting to know what it is. Tell them it is a mystery parcel so no can do. But do make sure there is good value for money. If you want to put up a photo, then on a piece of white paper write ( mystery box auction) and a big question mark.? Take the photo and add to your auction your usual way. have fun.

I don't understand them either. I assume the bidders don't have enough excitement or disappointment (or both?) in their lives.

I have occasionally considered listing my own "Mystery Box of Crap that Didn't Sell the First Time Around" auction but then I sober up and haul it all to the thrift store instead.

I guess they are tired of chasing after 'ghost in a jar' auction!

They seem to be very popular. I did one last year and did ok with it and they definately got more value in my mystery box than I should have included. Hum it may not be a complete mystery as mine had an item and everyday I added an item mystery, didn't get kicked off and had great fun with it.
