Well it has come home, my Mother in law did the unthinkable, cost them $10,00.00 which the bank says they will get back in 10 days and a whole day at the bank setting up new accounts not to mention having to call and reset up auto pays, deposits drafts etc, and putting fraud alerts on their credit at all the credit bureaus.

So a word to everyone out there please stress to your friends and relatives young and old to never click a link to update their information anywhere banks, credit cards or anything to do with anything financial. I thought I had stressed to her never to click a link in an email that ask for updating anything but I eithert hought I did or she didn't understand the implications. Her statement to me was but it looked like my regular site and she even clicked other links to check if it was real they all lead to official looking bank site just like her real one. I then told her they were designed to look like the real thing but to never never click a link in an email or other place to go to such sights.

What a hard lesson to learn but thankfully they will get their money back. Oh the way they took the money was to use the debit card number to transfer money from their bank to another bank I hope they catch them but have a feeling it was just one stop in a number to transfers to out of the USA.
I think she has learned her lesson the hard way. OH MY!

Irked, sorry about your In Laws. That must be a nightmare. I know you can get the money back when that happens but cleaning up the mess of missed payments and confusion would be awful.

Thinking about this will also make me follow up on a post card (not an email) I got from my savings and loan. I can open a no-minimum balance, no-check fee checking account there. I am going to do it right away. I can keep a small amount in it and use it to accept bank transfers from foreign buyers. That way if someone uses my routing number to empty the account it will not impact my automatic payments.

Photo that sounds like a good idea, been thinking of doing just that for making payments with just do a little transferring and get it done and leave no real balance there for anyone to try and get. Leaving main account in tact for its drafts and deposits that are automatic.

My inlaws have every single bill they owe routinely set up with automatic draft and now they have to contact every one of them to make changes, what a nightmare. The bank also told them to contact the credit bureaus to post a fraud alert on their credit so as to cover that too. I would love seeing that jerk caught but have a feeling that is is going to wind up with perp out of country even though they transferred money directly into a Bank of America account. I don't even know if that bank has out of country sites but would not doubt it if they did.

Irked, I am thinking I can also then set up a second PayPal account since I understand you need a different bank account and credit card for each different account. I would like to have a professional account for our online sales and one personal account.
