I just saw this in the Power Up Newsletter from eBay and thought I would pass it along:


Improve your search result rankings

Specifying reasonable shipping costs for your items is good business, and now it's more important than ever.

Buyers will soon be able to sort items in search results by total cost (item cost + shipping cost), and items listed without shipping costs stated in the Shipping Cost field will show up at the bottom of search results pages.

Help your listings rank well in searches and comply with eBay's Excessive Shipping Charges policy--list your shipping clearly.

Sheesh! eBay's long standing argument that "we're only a venue" is wearing thinner and thinner.

I guess the best way to ensure your item appears at the top of the search page is to (1) increase your minimum bid

(2) Offer Free Shipping (make sure the increase in your starting bid is enough to
cover your shipping costs).

One drawback: your insertion fee may be higher.

Here's a second drawback. Your FVF's will be higher too.

Oh I think they will soon start charging FVF for shipping, this change is just gearing up for that.
