I bought a troll doll about a month ago. It smelled a little musty so put it in a plastic bag with bounce sheets. I just dug it out and it is much worse. I swear a cat must have peed on it. Ready to throw it out. Any suggestions?

I have also tried the Bounce sheet trick and personally, I hate the smell of Bounce and when you mix it with anything else, makes it even worse.

You might want to try Activated Charcoal (you can pick it up in Wal-Mart) - NOT the BBQ type, although I've never tried that type, maybe they absorb odors too. You can put the charcoal container inside a plastic bag or Tupperware type container with the troll and leave it there for a week and see if it makes a difference. The charcoal actually absorbs the odors instead of masking any odors.

Good luck with it!

To the best of my knowledge, a troll is supposed to smell.
Could be you have the genuine article.

Best,
Michael

I've used kitty liter to de-stink old books. seems to work. I pour kitty liter into a something that holds about a qt. stuff it and the books and or troll (books will give the troll something to read for next couple weeks) into plastic or paper bag and leave for a couple weeks. Also if you live in a part of the country that gets sunshine on a regular basis, just set it out in the sun.

Another trick I've read about is to crumple up newspaper sheets and place in something along with the smelly item.

I have had good luck with a product call
Fab-Breeze sold in all grocery stores, just spray it on more than once if needed.
I once bought a truck that a heavy smoker had and it took me 4-5 times but I got the smell out of the seats, dash board and the whole cab. Smelled like new !!

If all else fails and you really really want this troll doll you can send it to me.

We had to buy an ozonator aka ozone generator - we had a condo that a smoker had lived in and although we completely repainted everything! and replaced the AC system it still smelled like smoke.

we had to run this baby twice but it no longer smelled of nicotine. great great item. I'll be happy to put it in something and run it for you.

you can email via glassgrl on ebay if you're interested.

baking soda always works for me..although I am not quite sure how you will get the baking soda out of a troll's hair. I just put it in a baggie with the item and let it sit..works great every time!!

Does baking soda work on paper? I'm sensitive to mildew smells and always pass on stinky paper. If there is a way to eradicate it, I would love to know the secret!

I read this on one of the paper conservation sites, tried it and it worked for me. This is just for the smell, if you have active mold then you will have to do something else.

Take two garbage cans, one small and one larger that the small one will fit into. Place kitty litter or baking soda, charcoal, etc. in the large one.

Place the paper items (best separated by archival tissue) in the small garbage can. Stand them up if you can so air can circulate. Small garbage can goes into big one. No lid on small garbage can. Put lid on the big one and wait. Check, small, remove or give another couple of days.

If your cards can stand sunshine sometimes that works too.

I find that the best way to remove mildew smells from paper is to place sheets of newspaper between each page, seal them in a plastic bag, and leave for a few weeks. I use it for craft books to remove mildew and nicotine. It can be very time consuming if it is a large book. I find that bouce sheets leave a scenty/mildew smell. Maybe if you wrapped your troll in newspaper and put it in a bag it would work. Newspaper is great for absorbing odors, you just have to be careful that the newsprint doesn't stain things.
