Hello, My problem is this. I sell sportscards on Ebay and Iam looking for batch rename software that you can manipulate the step value lower than 1. The problem is that when I do say 100 items, I scan the front and back of the card. So, in turn I have 200 image files. When I rename those files....feb28100 and so on, it throws off my numbering system per card. Example file feb28104 is still card #2 that Iam selling. I need a rename software that will allow me to rename with a step value of .5. So that when I rename the batch, it will say feb28100, feb28100.5, feb281001 etc... so they images will stay in line for easier attachment when creating my auctions. I hope I wasnt too confusing with this. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is hindering my ideas tremendously. Thank you , John.

Irfanview will do this. You can specify the starting index and the increment amount. Best yet, it's free!

Oops- just tried it and it doesn't work. I also scan front and backs. First I scan the fronts, naming them 07feb2801, 07feb2802, 07feb2803, etc. I make a new folder and scan the backs to the new folder in the same order, giving the identical name I gave to their front. Then I batch rename the backs, appending a 'b' to the file name, placing the renamed files in the same directory as the fronts. The backs alphabetically come right after the front of the card.

Wouldn't it be easier to name them as feb28100f and feb28100b instead of feb28100 and feb28100.5? Also if you are using Windows then the .5 extension might throw off some poorly-written software packages and they might not recognize them as graphics?

I routinely do massive renaming of bulk files under Mac OS X using a few AppleScripts I wrote or via FileBuddy - a file utility. There is a similar product called Better File Rename for Windows, or you could use AWK or a perl script to do the same (if you know the language).

I batch scan from Irfanview. Irfan views automatically saves and names the files, I use the date as my prefix, specify how many digits I want to follow, and the increment amount. Irfanview does the rest. I have to batch rename to add the 'b' to the file name, I use the name pattern $Nb
