The first time I got on my new talking scale it said "Whoa, one person at a time"... isn't that how the joke goes, Classic?

Bonnie:

Use the "MODE" key to switch between units, which, in this case are:

grams (g) / ounce (oz) / carats (ct) /
grains (gn) pennyweight (dwt) / troy ounces (ozt)

Hey Tom - in your reply post you put .con
instead of .com

Maybe you can edit this and change it so no one used it to email you.

thanks

Whoopsie!

As Ralphie tells me everyday (except for his birthday, the little weasel):

"Yer SENILE, old man!"

It would say, when was the last time your wife saw 90210? When she stood on the scale.

Tom, seeking free optical advice: I just got a letter from my 11 year old's school saying he tested 20-50 in his right eye and 20-25 in his left. His dad is making an appointment with an optometrist next week. I suspected vision problems 18 months ago - took him to an optometrist who said his vision was fine but prescribed reading glasses to make my kid feel important. Is it likely he will need glasses?

I wouldn't put too much weight on the results of the school administered vision tests. I remember testing kids as a PTO volunteer back when my kids were in grade school.

Here' something I found about what the numbers mean. Sounds like he can drive without glasses (though I wouldn't recommend letting an 11 yo drive!):

Certain visual acuities have special significance. Some of these are:
•20/20 vision is considered normal vision
•20/40 vision in at least one eye is the vision required to pass the driving test
•20/200 vision or worse is the legal definition of blindness

pixiamom:

My experience with school eye "exams" was that they are notoriously unreliable...

AT LEAST 90% of the kids we examined after a school exam had normal vision...

MANY REASONS for this, including unprofessional testing methods...

PLEASE REMEMBER that the school exam is just a "screening" and merely indicates that an exam with an EYE HEALTH PROFESSIONAL is a good idea...

ALL KIDS are born HYPEROPIC (bad term for HYPEROPIA is: FARSIGHTED), because a HYPEROPIC eye is a SHORT eye...

As one grows, the eyeball lengthens, especially during puberty...

If it lengthens a little too much, it has MYOPIA (bad term for this is: NEARSIGHTEDNESS)...

THE GREAT DEBATE: is it chicken or egg? Is MYOPIA heredity, or can reading (or lack of reading) habits affect one's REFRACTIVE ERROR progression???...

Well...

Depends...
