OK I know why but???? If ebay will allow someone to ask me a question after the auction is over - why won't they allow me to answer it?
Someone wrote me via my message but I got the following when I tried to reply (I really liked the one about the wining buyer). Now ebay - isn't this a little silly?:

Attention!

We have determined you are trying to contact an eBay member with whom you are not currently involved in an open transaction. For the protection of the eBay community, we sometimes block these types of communication. To prevent this occurrence from happening in the future, we recommend the following:

*

If you are a seller, respond to all bidder questions before the auction ends.

*

If you are trying to contact the seller of an item that has not yet ended go to the item page and click the “Ask seller a question” link.

*

If you are the winning buyer of an item go to your My eBay page under the items I’ve Won section. Click the action drop down menu and choose the “contact seller” action.

*

If you are a seller trying to contact your wining buyer, go to My eBay and under the Items I’ve Sold section, click the action drop down menu. Choose the “contact buyer” action.

*

Reply to seller/bidder through personal email provider (if the sender has not hidden their email address).

Thank you for your understanding.

Also, I wish eBay would let you answer a question more than once. Several times I have needed to send a message to the buyer asking a question again, but just get the message that the question has been answered. Last week a made a mistake giving a postage quote and was unable to get to the buyer.

One of the main reasons that i receive the emails that tell me when an auction is finished and sold is because it has the buyers details in it. inc email address.

Agate: YOu're still getting those end-of-auction e-mails? I'm STILL not getting them, not even the unsold ones. Yes, and that's why I wanted them in my e-mail, so I could communicate with my buyers more than once.

What I do when asking a question about an item that's ended with no bids is to go to another auction item of that seller and send a question through that medium, making clear that my question is about a different auction. Works pretty well.

No one won this auction as I canceled the bids and ended it early due to an error. I tried to contact all the bidders but I could only contact the high bidder. I don't even know if this person was one of the bidders.
I'm sure eBay didn't want me to sell outside eBay. I just wonder if the bidder knows how hard it is to get them a message?

You can also contact both buyers and sellers by going to their feedback page and clicking on the contact member link.

Agate, I used to get them all. Then last fall when I was getting only the "not sold" e-mails, I started trying to get them all. Wrote to eBay, asked in this forum, signed up and signed up and signed up to get them. Still, nothing. NOW I get neither sold nor unsold e-mails. I still get PayPal notices when people pay through them. It's been a source of major frustration for months now, for exactly the reason you like getting them. All the information is right there, and I can just work with it.

roadsmith . I get all 3 emails. 1 for new listing. 1 for ended not sold. and 1 for ended and sold. if i remember correctly i had to sign up for all 3. i never had a choice. I would suggest that you go in and re sign up for all 3 emails. Just in case this does make a difference. i think it did.

I'll try again, Agate. I'd like a nickel for all the times I've done that--but it never hurts to give it another try. SOOOO frustrating.

Agate: I took another look at my preferences, and, lo and behold, "somehow" they'd been changed to no notifications! I've corrected that, and let's what happens.

roadsmith. over a period of years i have learnt that i must check my settings first thing when something goes wrong. most times the settings have been changed. and not by me. By the usual incompentent ankles at ebay who are trying to fix things that are not broken. It certainly does get frustrating when this happens and you cant find the problem. only to find that ebay caused it. Glad you got it fixed.

roadsmith: I understand your frustration, I have had the same problem. It took many, many emails, changing preference, undoing and re-doing. I think in the end, eBay got so tired of my emails, they put a technician on it, and it was finally resolved. I find things default all the time. I changed my shipping information a few months ago, and I have to check every time that it hasn't defaulted to the old one again.

Well, I promise to keep an eye on my preferences. I couldn't believe it when I checked and saw how they'd been messed with!
