I believe this comes from Greek Mythology but all the half men / half beast I can find have 4 legs not two. Does anyone know?
Thanks

Pan was a faun. They do seem to be related and I am not sure how to tell them apart.

No not a centaur - they had 4 legs or two human legs and an animal head - I can't remember which at the moment. Thanks for trying.

A centaur had a human chest, arms and head atop a horse's body and the horse ofcourse has 4 legs. This one is definitely Pan as the figure has the legs and hoofs of a goat. You might "google" it.

Also a little piece of information I once read which ofcourse may or may not be true. The very early Greeks had no horses so when they were raided by horseback riding neigbors from the north, they assumed that the rider and horse were one - hence the appearance of a human atop a horse's body which became the mythical centaur in later years.
