Today i received my second neg in about 9 years. All because this turkey did not like being asked to pay by credit card the way most of my customers have done for many many years. He was horrified, and all because he did not read my policy at the bottom of the auction where it stated i only accept paypal under certain conditions , please write and ask before you bid. CLEAR ENOUGH.

Without contacting me to ask for more details , he negged me.

Well, i saw red. I got his phone no and called him from Australia. i had the great satisfaction of telling him a few home truths and seriously dressing him down. He has a feedback of 20 and has been on ebay for about 2 yrs. By the time i had my say, he realised that he was definitely in the wrong. I also told him how he should have acted and what he should have done.So i did educate him.

He apoligized profusly and offered to have the neg removed. Which he did.It has taken me 3 hrs to calm down.

He also told me that he was in the Homeland security Guard and they were worried about identity theft. Even though my instructions were written on a return of his email thru ebay. He thought it was a scam. So he negged me.

Several hours later he wrote me an apology. Here it is.

Sir;

Just a personal note incase you may need it for files to send to anyone in question.

Concerning the artical I bid on and placed a negitive feedback:

I (name removed) was at full fault and not Frank in this situation.

I neglected to read before bidding his payment requirements and preferences.

This mans reputation as a merchant or a person should in no way be in question because of my ignorance and neglect.

I apoligize and feel shammed that I have done this or anything that could have an ill effect on this man or his reputation and ask humbly that my arrogance be excused.

name deleted (USA)

Sorry to hear about your experience, but glad it worked out. I had someone neg me because she didn't pay or respond in 8 days, and I filed an UID. She was livid that I would do that. When I told her I had sent her 7 emails, she responded that "I have more important things to do than read 7 emails" I was so dumbfounded, I didn't even know what to respond. I neg'd her of course, and she said she would remove hers, but never did.

Does your buyer know he can have his feedback removed? Or, maybe you have to first leave feedback, and then get the "mutual feedback retraction" through eBay (or whatever they call it).

my buyer applied to have it removed . i was sent a consent form that says we both agree to have it removed. i sighed and returned it to ebay. it was removed almost immediately. i was so annoyed that i did not think to leave him a feedback. but he sure did apologize to me.

Agate, I'm sure you didn't deserve the neg and am really glad you were successful in getting it removed. I am continually amazed, however, in the time and angst spent in feedback reactions - it is only an opinion and not a legal statement. Very little effect on buyers - it's your overall percentage that counts. JMHO.

What really annoyed me was the way he went around things, not checking with me first , not reading my instructions and policy. but he was shocked when i called him and explained. it was great to be able to get up an idiot for once. and in 9 years i only had 2 negs. so i was very annoyed.

Good for you agate!! I'm glad it worked out for you. It's also good to know that FB can be removed at the poster request without exchanging bad FB.

I thought that if you accepted PayPal you had to accept all forms of payments from PayPal. I'm fairly sure they eliminated the right to pick and choose. Or, is that only for certain types of accounts?

"I thought that if you accepted PayPal you had to accept all forms of payments from PayPal."

Here's what the horse's mouth says....

"Sellers who offer PayPal as a payment option in their eBay listings (either via logos or through text in the item description) must accept card funded payments. Sellers must have a Premier or Business PayPal Account or be willing to upgrade from a Personal PayPal Account to a Premier or Business Account upon receipt of a card funded payment. Sellers may not communicate to buyers that they only accept account balance or bank account funded payments, or will not accept card funded payments. eCheck is the only funding source that eBay sellers are allowed to block."

There are certain cases where you don't have to take paypal - Unconfirmed address - Low or bad FB history etc.
I'll be darn if paypal can force me to take paypal from a high risk buyer.

Pixi: I think there's a "positive feedback phenomenon" that happens to some of us, to make us so upset when we get a neg. I believe that the longer we go with NO negs, the harder it is to take one. I've gone a long time without a neg, and as I recall that one was removed by the seller. Up in the 2200s now with 100% positive, I feel like one of those compulsive housewives who go nuts over a spilled glass. I know a neg doesn't kill us, but somehow that unblemished record seems like gold!

agate is in Australia. The laws are different there and PayPal is more regulated. Buyers there can set their auctions the where they can accept only certain types of payments. Here in the USA, there are no regulations on PayPal and they do as they please. Mainly forcing sellers to accept unsecure payments. This is the main reason I am moving away from PayPal to a merchant account and why my employer has completely dropped PayPal.

Hi everyone. lots of good input. thank you. I dislike paypal intensly. However over the years i have decided to accept it as a last resort. That is why i write in my conditions on payment . and why i only accept them as a last resort. I do accept credit cards directly, or thru an aussie company called Paymate. You guys in the states pay i believe 2.5%in fees. In Australia we have to pay 3.5% in fees to paypal. When our own gestapo team (ebay)start dictating to me regarding how i accept payment, then i will totally drop them. surely it is our right to accept payment as we see fit and how it suit us. I am sure you all would agree with that.

yes i do pick and choose who i accept payment from by paypal. i tend to check their feedback too and if they got a bad history then i do not take paypal. I am 8,000.miles from most of you and it is a bit far to swim to sort a problem. Because of this turkey who caused the bad f/b i added a sentence to my auctions. here it is.

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BID. MY FIRST CHOICE OF PAYMENT IS BY CREDIT CARD DIRECT. OR THRU PAYMATE . WE DO HAVE AN ADDRESS IN THE USA FOR PAYMENTS TO BE PAID BY A MONEYORDER FOR U.S. BASED RESIDENTS ONLY. WE WILL ACCEPT PAYPAL UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS ONLY. PLEASE WRITE AND ASK ABOUT THIS BEFORE YOU BID IF YOU WANT TO PAY WITH PAYPAL. BUT DO REMEMBER THAT PAYPAL IS A LAST RESORT ONLY. WE DONT LIKE THE 3.5% THEY CHARGE US. OUR OTHER METHODS ARE MUCH CHEAPER FOR US TO ACCEPT.IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE ASK THANK YOU..

Am i wrong in putting this in my auctions. Surley we all have the right to accept payment in the way convenient our personal wishes.

roadsmith Your right about the "positive feedback phenomenon" i had never thought about that.

ST0NEC0LD613 Your correct about paypal in australia.

ladyjewels2000 i agree with you. No one is going to force me to accept paypal when i dont want to. I only accept it at my convenience.
