Jack, are you saying this guy is homeless. If he is he is eligible for state aid, medical, money, food, housing etc. & he must ask for it....now.
Perhaps you can get things started for him. You are a good guy for looking out for your friend.
I think he needs much more than a Chiropractor, he might need to see a neurosurgeon.

Jack, he might need more than a Chiropractor. He probably hurt his back because the muscles are weak. He may have really screwed up his back. I would suggest really getting it checked out. You are in Calif, right? Jane is right, there are many resources you can tap into. If you are in Calif, contact me off list, I have a list of contacts that may help

Jack, you have such a big heart, sorry I can't help right now but since I am sure he will need ongoing help please count on me in May. I hope someone on the list of contacts you receive from paloma will help relieve his pain.

ps I remember those days when we were just one paycheck away from being on the street ourselves.
I find it so horrifying those news shows they do on health care in America. With just one serious incidence people can begin the downward spiral from which they find it almost impossible to recover.

slightly on/off topic
Allstate just canceled our homeowners insurance here in Florida. We've never filed a claim but Allstate decided they didn't want to insure homeowners in Florida. Gee thanks.
It'd be lovely if everyone in the other 49 states would cancel their insurance with Allstate and let them know how it feels. I just can't help but laugh thinking about it

but what do you do for insurance in the meantime,,,,???? having no insurance is NO laughing matter,,I just heard on the radio today, around $300.00 per year? Bill Handle on los angeles radio (64 KFI),,He's an ATTORNEY,,,,was talking this VERY same issue,,I think,,,,, they call this RED lining??? ILLEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!! class Action Suits possibly?? I dunno to much....

Good move going to the ER. By law they have to see him, money or no.
A chiro would have been bad choice. His injury is unknown & if he has a cracked a bone one of them could cripple him or he could end up like niel did.
I'm glad you came here too & second what GG said. Thanks for thinking of us.

ok. now that I think back about what the ATTORNEY said maybe that was JUST the FIRE insurance part? $300.00 a year,,,the House burned down there there was NO insurance paid, the homeowner lost....This was in the Los Angeles area,,,,,Does sound incredibly cheap, BUT I DID hear him say, what an idiot that did NOT pay the $300.00 A YEAR for insurance....He OWNS a house here so he MUST know what he is talking about....

Sad but true insurance story: 9 years ago I had very good health insurance (100% paid for family by employer - NO deductible) and agreed to cutting-edge elective surgery. Afterwards, I became a self-employed reseller for the same company - looked for an alternative for COBRA and found that by having the surgery, I was uninsurable so I stuck with the COBRA plan.
Several employers later I worked for a scumbag software company that offered unrealistic high bonuses if you made quota. When I met it, they couldn't pay - duh! My mom was sick, I quit in disgust. They held my bonus ransom until I signed a waiver against any legal actions against them. It was only then that I found they didn't offer a COBRA plan because they claimed they were exempt because of their company size - which was really 8 employees over the limit. They claimed they were consultants, not employees - CARP! No way did they fit the government standard of consultant - I was very familiar with that when I was self-employed!
I decided to take my chances and went several years without insurance, without a single doctor's appointment. Noting that the odds are creeping against me, I applied again for insurance. Even though it had been more than 5 years (the maximum you need to report) since my elective surgery, the 5 year span was expanded to the last time I applied for insurance and was rejected. I would be SOL except that Oregon is a progressive state which has an insurance pool for uninsurables. The tab: over $550 per month for one person
with a $750 deductible.

You have a wonderful big heart to help a friend like that-Jack. Hope it works out for him - let us know if he still needs something after it's all said and done.
Glassgirl - you can add Safeco to the list of companies dropping Florida homeowners like a hot potato. We lost our insurance last October after 25 years without a single claim. We got new coverage but it tripled and the mortgage payment is getting hard to cover.
